Chelsea are not interested in signing Isco, with Thomas Tuchel reportedly unimpressed with the Real Madrid playmaker.
According to a recent report from El Nacional, Real Madrid are keen on offloading Isco in the upcoming January transfer window. The playmaker has been deemed surplus to requirements for coach Carlo Ancelotti, and the club intends to sell him this winter in order to avoid letting him walk out of the Santiago Bernabeu for free.
Chelsea were among the clubs offered the services of Isco. But it appears they have now backed out of their pursuit as head coach Thomas Tuchel is apparently not a big fan of the Spanish international.
It appears the Chelsea boss is aware of Isco’s bad reputation off the pitch. He is often referred to as an individualist rather than a team player, while his questionable attitude has not earned him plaudits during his time at Real Madrid. The playmaker even reportedly had a poor relationship with former captain Sergio Ramos.
Isco is not a favoured option from a sporting perspective either, given that the Spaniard has endured a steady decline over the past few years. Ever since Zinedine Zidane first arrived at Real Madrid, the former Malaga playmaker has slowly fallen out of favour in the first team, especially with Luka Modric seemingly becoming an integral part of the team and forming an excellent combination with Casemiro and Toni Kroos.
As a result, the 29-year-old is yet to feature in over 1,200 minutes of league football in any of his last three seasons in La Liga. Even under new coach Ancelotti, the playmaker has featured in just six league matches, starting only twice.
His lack of first-team action in recent years makes him an undesirable target for Chelsea, who already have not had much success with another Spanish playmaker in Saul Niguez.
Isco, in that regard, might not be the best of options if Chelsea are to replace someone like Hakim Ziyech, who has been recently linked with a move to Borussia Dortmund. Christian Pulisic and Callum Hudson-Odoi are also facing an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge, so it won’t be surprising to see the Blues looking elsewhere for a new number ten in January.
As for Real Madrid, Isco’s January move to Chelsea may have been helpful in aiding their pursuit of someone like Donny van de Beek while Los Blancos are also in contention to sign Denis Zakaria.
