Real Madrid are reportedly ready to submit a bid worth €50 million to sign Ferran Torres, a target for bitter rivals Barcelona.
According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Real Madrid are preparing to make their move for Ferran Torres in next summer’s transfer window. The Spanish giants are ready to offer €50 million to land the Manchester City forward, who is also being tailed by bitter rivals Barcelona.
Ferran Torres joined Manchester City from boyhood club Valencia in the summer of 2020 and has since made significant progress in his career. While the 21-year-old has not featured prominently for the Premier League champions so far, he has still shown many promising signs, even when played in an experimental centre-forward role.
The Spanish international started the 2021/22 season strongly, raking in three goals and an assist in seven appearances across all competitions for Manchester City before being sidelined by a foot injury sustained while on international duty. However, his progress has already been noticed by two of the biggest clubs in the world, with Real Madrid and Barcelona keen on signing him.
Real Madrid have been closely monitoring Torres’s progress for quite some time, and their interest in him does make sense. While Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland are touted to be their priority, Los Blancos could be forced to sign another attacker due to the form and fitness issues plaguing Eden Hazard, Marco Asensio and Gareth Bale.
On the other hand, Barcelona have also been hot on the trail of the 21-year-old for a while. The Blaugrana need a player of Torres’s qualities amid the uncertainties surrounding the future of Ousmane Dembele. With the first team also lacking a quality striker, Torres could also be a viable option to lead the line for Barcelona.
However, the Catalan giants will need to pull their socks up to secure the services of the 21-year-old, as Real Madrid are readying their offer to sign him. The Merengues are prepared to offer €50 million to land Torres, with the figure being double what Manchester City paid to bring him to the Etihad.
What now remains to be seen is if Barcelona respond by preparing an offer of their own. Both Real Madrid and Barcelona should fancy their chances of snapping Torres up. According to the report, he is eager to secure more regular game-time than he is afforded at Manchester City. So, an intriguing summer transfer battle is being set up.
