Arsenal are interested in 22-year-old RB Leipzig midfielder Tyler Adams who has a €40 million release clause.

According to SportBild via Sport Witness, Arsenal are showing an interest in RB Leipzig star Tyler Adams, who could be available for a transfer if his €40 million release clause is paid. The Gunners might be looking for a midfielder in January or next summer, depending on situations with current options.

This season, Arsenal are setting the tone in the Premier League after an impressive run of eight unbeaten games, which took them up to fifth on the table. They have done so against the odds and without key midfielder Granit Xhaka for most parts.

At the start of the season, there seemed like a problem in Arsenal’s midfield, when Xhaka was suspended, and Thomas Partey had fitness concerns. Despite the arrival of Albert Sambi Lokonga from Anderlecht, Mikel Arteta wasn’t expected to shoehorn him straight into Premier League actions.

Since Xhaka’s injury against Tottenham, which effectively ruled him out until the new year, Lokonga has stepped in with ease. He looks like a bargain signing on current form, putting in tremendous performances alongside Partey in midfield. Recently Ainsley Maitland-Niles has also played somewhat regularly, giving Arteta more options.

Arsenal are missing an outright defensive midfielder in their ranks, which the club intend to fill in the next window or the following summer. Some names are mentioned for the position, including Xhaka’s international teammate Denis Zakaria who could be signed on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Brighton’s Yves Bissouma has been linked for a long time now, although those stories have cooled off in recent months. Real Betis star Guido Rodriguez is also a name that featured recently.

A new name has emerged in Tyler Adams. The American, 22, who plays for RB Leipzig, has a €40 million release clause. The German side might be willing to enter into discussions if Arsenal provides encouragement over paying his price. Leipzig’s business model is to develop players for a profit, and they won’t stand in the way.

Adams, who has featured somewhat regularly for Leipzig this season, has played seven times so far in the league. He could prove to be a valuable addition for the Gunners in the long run, given that he is just 22 years old and has his best years in front of him. Able to play at right-back or right wing-back, his versatility would allow Arteta more options and flexibility in his squad selection.

It will be interesting to see if Arsenal make a move either in January or next summer.
