Transfer News: Liverpool, Real Madrid prepare contract offers for Marcelo Brozovic

Real Madrid and Liverpool are reportedly willing to offer between €7 million and €8 million per year to Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic.

According to a report by Italian outlet Sportmediaset, as relayed by FC Inter 1908, Real Madrid and Liverpool are prepared to make bumper contract offers for Marcelo Brozovic. The two heavyweight clubs are willing to offer up to €8 million per year to the 28-year-old Inter Milan midfielder.

Marcelo Brozovic joined Inter Milan from Dinamo Zagreb in January 2015 and has come a long way since then. One of the best midfielders in Serie A currently, the Croat has been a mainstay in midfield for the Nerazzurri for the better part of the last six years. At the same time, he has also been a key player for his national side, playing a major role in their run to the 2018 FIFA World Cup final.

To date, the 28-year-old has made 258 appearances for the reigning Serie A champions, chipping in with 26 goals and 35 assists along the way. However, Inter Milan are in a precarious position over Brozovic’s long-term future, seeing as he is in the final year of his contract with the club and no closer to signing a renewal. Such a situation has alerted Real Madrid and Liverpool, among others.

Real Madrid bolstered their midfield in the summer by signing Eduardo Camavinga. However, with Luka Modric nearing the end of his playing days, there is a sense that next summer could herald the addition of another midfielder, especially with Isco and Dani Ceballos out of favour with Carlo Ancelotti.

To that end, Los Blancos have been linked with several midfielders recently, with Brozovic among the players on their radar. Reports have even suggested that Brozovic would be keen on joining Real Madrid if the opportunity presented itself. On the other hand, Liverpool are eyeing the 28-year-old for a similar reason.

As is the case at Real Madrid, Liverpool need to lay down the succession plan for veteran midfielder James Milner. In addition, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain appears to be set to depart Anfield sooner or later, which would open up a spot in the midfield department. So, the interest from Liverpool does make sense.

Apart from Liverpool and Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain are also hot on Brozovic’s trail, with each of the three clubs ready to offer him a deal worth up to €8 million per year. The Croat’s suitors will be able to open negotiations at the turn of the year, and Inter will be keen on tying him down to a new deal before then, lest they risk losing him for free.
