Tottenham remain interested in a move for Milan Skriniar with new boss Antonio Conte keen on a reunion with the Slovakian.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Tottenham could explore the opportunity of signing Milan Skriniar to bolster their ranks. The north Londoners are expected to bring in a few players to Antonio Conte’s liking, with the Inter Milan star one of his priorities.

The Tottenham fanbase was treated to the announcement of Conte’s appointment recently. After a difficult period under former manager Nuno Espirito Santo, there is a belief in improvement under the Italian.

One of the most important expectations from Conte is to tighten up the defence, which has been leaky all season. The Italian is known to drill his side’s defence and develop a strong, astute unit. His days at Juventus, Chelsea and Inter are clear examples, as the tactician prefers a solid base at the back to build on.

Similarly, he might bring in specific players to shore up the backline, as current options have not been convincing enough. Tottenham have been linked with a few stars, including long-term target Milan Skriniar. Former manager Jose Mourinho wanted him during his time at the club.

With Conte on board, Tottenham will feel more confident of signing him this time around. The manager’s lure might be enough to convince the 26-year-old Slovakian international to switch sides. Skriniar’s contract with Inter expires in 2023, and if interest keeps growing, a move might be imminent in the near future.

Inter may ideally avoid a sale in January but considering his value might diminish in the summer due to his contract situation, the club could command a better fee in January. Fabio Paratici has shown in the previous window that he is prepared to make big moves after signing Cristian Romero, who could join them permanently for over €50 million.

While the Argentine looks like a good signing, Skriniar will bring immense quality to that backline. Tottenham may have to field competition for Skriniar as Real Madrid and Manchester United are also keen. Eventually, the lure of the reunion with Conte might work in Spurs’ favour.

Spurs are also keeping tabs on Stefan de Vrij’s situation at Inter, as Conte is comfortable with working with either of his former defensive rocks. Skriniar will certainly offer a more long term option to any backline, which is why Paratici is keen to snap him up. However, it remains to be seen if a move comes to fruition.
