Transfer News: Tottenham, Manchester United offered chance to sign Marcelo Brozovic

Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have both been handed an opportunity to land Inter Milan’s midfield engine Marcelo Brozovic on a free next summer.

According to Inter Live, Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United have been handed a golden opportunity to land Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic. The Croatian international is currently in the final few months of his contract at the San Siro. As things stand, negotiations to extend his stay have hit a standstill. This gives teams circling an opportunity to land the 28-year-old.

Brozovic has been at Inter since 2015 and is today a key part of the Nerazzurri lineup. He played an important role in Antonio Conte’s title-winning side last season and continues to impress under his successor, Simone Inzaghi. Having lost a number of top stars in the recent summer transfer window, Inter are keen to tie down their best players to long term deals.

While Lautaro Martinez has signed a new deal, the same cannot be said of Brozovic. The 28-year-old is demanding a contract worth €6 million per season in wages. Inter, meanwhile, are unwilling to meet it and are aiming to settle around the €5 million-a-year region. With the impasse continuing, it remains to be seen who will blink first.

Capable of functioning as a two-way player, Brozovic is good at settling the game in the middle of the park and also making passes that can help control the game. He has an eye for making protruding through balls and also packs a mean shot in his boots. At 28, he also happens to be in the prime of his career.

Both Tottenham and Manchester United lack a player who can help them win the midfield battle. The Red Devils are an overwhelming force while going forward but lack a leader in midfield who can help them retain the shape.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men looked impressive against Tottenham at the weekend, ironically another side unable to influence things in the middle of the pitch. The loss to Liverpool showed how fragile their midfield is and they would do well to add a player of Brozovic’s traits to their roster.

Ironically it could be Tottenham who could land them a sucker punch when it comes to landing the Croatian. With Antonio Conte now in charge at the Lane, the Lilywhites could have an advantage when it comes to a transfer duel. Partnering the Croatian alongside Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg could give them a midfield core to build the team around.

The Italian tactician is already aware of how to get the best out of the midfielder and could repeat the trick in North London. Spurs have a few gaping holes in their squad and adding Brozovic into the mix would be a welcome move. The 52-year-old certainly has an eye on his former stars.

It is not every day that a player of Brozovic’s capability becomes available on the market, that too potentially on a free. Who in the end wins the race to land him remains to be seen.
