Real Madrid are reportedly tracking the progress of Jeremy Doku, with the 19-year-old Belgian whizkid emerging as a potential attacking reinforcement.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Jeremy Doku is the subject of interest from Real Madrid over a potential move in a future transfer window. In fact, the 19-year-old Rennes whizkid has already been approached by the Spanish giants.
Jeremy Doku spent his formative years with four different clubs before graduating from Anderlecht in 2018, aged just 16. After two years with the Belgian giants, the player made his way to Stade Rennais in the summer of 2020, and the move to Roazhon Park has worked out well for him.
An impressive maiden campaign with Rennes was followed by a call-up to the Belgian national side for UEFA Euro 2020. To date, the 19-year-old whizkid has made 41 appearances for the Ligue 1 outfit. And although his tally of two goals and four assists might appear to be paltry, he has still impressed a great deal. So much so that Real Madrid are now hot on the trails of Doku.
Real Madrid first set their sights on Doku when they were keeping tabs on Eduardo Camavinga last season. The French prodigy joined Real Madrid on a deadline day move in the summer, but Los Blancos are not done with their trips to Rennes just yet, with Doku still on their radar.
The interest in the 19-year-old Belgian whizkid is understandable as well, considering Gareth Bale appears set to depart the Santiago Bernabeu as a free agent next summer. At the same time, Marco Asensio’s inconsistencies have left him with an uncertain future at Real Madrid, with the Spaniard being linked with Borussia Dortmund, Manchester United and Juventus, among others.
To that end, Doku is a viable target for the Merengues. The report even mentions that the teenage prodigy has already been contacted by Real Madrid, who have enquired about his current situation at Rennes, suggesting a move could be on the cards.
As per recent reports, Liverpool appear to be leading the race to sign Doku, and it looks like the competition for his signature could be intense next summer. What remains to be seen is if Real Madrid firm up their interest in the 19-year-old or turn their attention elsewhere.
