Transfer News: Tottenham interested in Raul de Tomas

Tottenham are reportedly among the clubs keen on signing 27-year-old Spanish striker Raul de Tomas from Espanyol.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Raul de Tomas is the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur over a move in next summer’s transfer window. The 27-year-old Espanyol striker is also being courted by several other clubs across Spain and Europe.

Raul de Tomas has forged quite a career for himself since leaving Real Madrid. In particular, the move to Espanyol in January 2020 has done wonders for his career, with the Spaniard playing a key role in their promotion back to La Liga, finishing as the top scorer in the second division with 23 goals last term.

The 27-year-old has kicked off the new La Liga campaign strongly, with six goals and two assists in 11 appearances so far. The former Real Madrid striker’s progress over the last couple of years has not gone unnoticed either, with some of the biggest clubs in Europe now starting to show an interest in signing him. And Tottenham Hotspur are among de Tomas’ suitors.

Tottenham continue to be in a spot of bother over the long-term future of Harry Kane, with Gabriel Agbonlahor recently suggesting that the England captain could well force through a January exit from the club after failing to secure a big move to Manchester City in the summer.

Spurs could do with a striker like de Tomas even if Kane stays put, with the incumbent not having a recognised backup, even though Dane Scarlett has received some minutes this season. Either way, the 27-year-old striker is a viable target for Tottenham.

The report claims that Tottenham, who have also been linked with Dusan Vlahovic, Paul Onuachu and Mauro Icardi, are eyeing a summer move for de Tomas, primarily as a replacement for Kane. However, they are open to signing him even if the Englishman stays put at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Apart from Tottenham, Atletico Madrid, Sevilla, and West Ham United are also showing interest in de Tomas potentially setting up a transfer battle for his services. What remains to be seen is if Spurs can prevail in the pursuit of the Espanyol striker or if some other club manages to secure his services.
