Manchester City have reportedly set their sights on Ajax’s 21-year-old attacking sensation Antony, who is also a target for Bayern Munich.

According to Calciomercato, Manchester City have become the latest team to register interest in Antony. The 21-year-old Brazilian international has been one of the top performers in the Eredivisie this season, thus attracting the attention of some of the top clubs across Europe, including Manchester City and Bayern Munich.

Formerly of Sao Paulo, Antony has been a part of the Ajax setup since last year. He was involved in 17 goals during his debut campaign in Eredivisie and has started the new season on a strong note as well, having been involved in five goals in nine competitive matches.

The Brazilian international has created a formidable attacking combination alongside the likes of Steven Berghuis, Dusan Tadic and Sebastien Haller. Their collective contributions have helped Ajax emerge as the undisputed favourites in the race for the Eredivisie title while also emerging as one of the best performing teams in the Champions League so far.

Antony particularly raised many eyebrows with his performance against Borussia Dortmund, as Ajax dismantled the Bundesliga giants 4-0 on Tuesday, thus retaining their hundred percent record in the competition.

The youngster’s performances have not gone unnoticed either, with Manchester City reportedly prepared to make a move in the near future. The reigning English champions, after all, are bracing themselves for life without Raheem Sterling, who could leave the club in January and is even being linked with a shock return to Liverpool.

Bernardo Silva faces an uncertain future at the Etihad as well amid interest from Barcelona. And it appears Pep Guardiola is prepared to replace them with the acquisition of Antony, who has expertly integrated himself into Ajax’s brand of football while his electric pace could be a massive asset for the Citizens.

However, Manchester City are set to face stiff competition from Bayern Munich, in pursuit of the 21-year-old Brazilian. The Bavarians are also bracing themselves for the potential departure of Kingsley Coman, with Antony emerging as an ideal cost-effective option for Julian Nagelsmann.

Ajax, though, have every right to keep hold of their prized asset for now, as he does have a long-term contract at the club. Moreover, the player himself might be compelled to continue his career in Amsterdam, should the Dutch giants maintain their high level of performance in the Champions League.
