Transfer News: Tottenham prepare €45 million proposal for Aurelien Tchouameni

Wolverhampton Wanderers v Besiktas: Group K - UEFA Europa League

Tottenham Hotspur are ready to make a January swoop for Aurelien Tchouameni by weighing up a €45 million offer for the midfielder.

According to Calciomercatoweb.it, Tottenham Hotspur have set their sights on a January move for Aurelien Tchouameni. The club’s technical director Fabio Paratici is keen on shoring up his team’s midfield options, with the AS Monaco starlet emerging as an ideal option.

Spurs are believed to be weighing up a bid of €45 million to secure the services of Tchouameni in the upcoming January transfer window. Monaco, though, value the player at around €65 million, while the club may also face stiff competition from Premier League rivals Chelsea and Manchester United.

The Frenchman, after all, has become one of the hottest midfield prospects in Europe after enjoying his professional breakthrough under Niko Kovac last season. He was a central figure to the club’s third-place finish in the league and the midfielder has continued to impress the onlookers in the new campaign.

Tchouameni was even-handed his French debut by Didier Deschamps in September, with the youngster following up to win the UEFA Nations League earlier this month. His rapid rise to prominence has now put Tottenham, as well as other European giants on red alert.

The Lilywhites have lacked variety in their midfield unit this season, as the trifecta of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Harry Winks and Oliver Skipp offer similar qualities in the middle of the park. As a result, the club has lacked that dynamic, creative presence, especially with Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso struggling with both form and fitness.

Tottenham are already expected to offload Harry Winks in January, with the Englishman being linked with a potential move to Everton. Even Ndombele is now being subjected to a move away from North London.

Their potential departure could open up the space for Tchouameni to become a first-team regular at the club, during the second half of the campaign. However, it remains to be seen whether the Frenchman would prefer a move to Spurs, given their mediocrity in the past couple of seasons.

The Lilywhites are currently playing in the UEFA Conference League and it appears unlikely that they will compete for the top four places anytime soon. Moreover, their proposed €45 million falls short of Monaco’s valuation as well, so it will only be a surprise to see Tchouameni joining Spurs anytime soon.
