Manchester City and Manchester United are reportedly set to go head to head in the race to sign Alexander Isak next summer.
According to Fichajes, Alexander Isak is set for a move away from Real Sociedad next summer. The talented striker had only extended his contract at the Anoeta earlier this season, but his €90 million release clause means that the player will be available in the market.
Isak is already attracting the interest of two clubs in the form of Manchester United and Manchester City. The two rivals are expected to go head to head in the race to sign the Swedish international, who had raised a lot of eyebrows with his performances at UEFA Euro 2020, spearheading his nation’s attack with aplomb.
The youngster was linked with a move to the Premier League in the summer, with Arsenal interested in his services. But he ended up remaining at Real Sociedad, even extending a deal that allowed the Spanish outfit to get rid of the buyback clause worth just €30 million while increasing the release clause from €70 million to €90 million.
However, Isak’s future at Real Sociedad is far from secure as the striker continues to impress under Imanol Alguacil. Although the 22-year-old is yet to find the back of the net this season, he has a good record in La Liga, with a total of 34 goals in less than 100 competitive appearances for the Sociedad in all competitions.
What makes the Swedish international such a sought after prospect in the market is his technical ability as well as his tenacity that makes him a modern centre-forward. It is exactly the reason why Manchester City have been left intrigued by the former Borussia Dortmund man, who is being scouted as a potential alternative to a current Dortmund striker and one of the club’s top targets in Erling Haaland.
Manchester United, meanwhile, are determined to improve their ranks despite the addition of Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho. They are, after all, expected to lose Edinson Cavani, who is being linked with a move to Newcastle United, while new signing Sancho has not been able to settle in under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s more direct tactical philosophy.
Isak fits the bill perfectly for Manchester United as he can act as a secondary forward alongside Ronaldo whilst offering his team the pace and tenacity required to trouble the opposition on the counter. However, it remains to be seen whether any of the two clubs actually go on to meet the striker’s €90 million release clause, which is indeed a tall order given the current financial climate.
