Newcastle United have reportedly reached out to Nabil Fekir’s representatives over a possible move, as the Premier League club eyes key January signings.

According to FootMercato, Newcastle United are showing interest in a move for Nabil Fekir and could make an offer in the January window. The attacking midfielder has a contract until 2023 with Real Betis, with an extension that could also be an alternate possibility.

Nabil Fekir recently expressed his satisfaction with life at Real Betis after two comfortable seasons in Andalusia. The French international also confirmed talks have begun with the Spanish sides over a contract extension, with his current deal expiring in 2023. However, there are reports that the attacking midfielder is also exploring options.

Ever since his high profile move to Liverpool collapsed a few years back, Fekir hasn’t featured much on the radar of big clubs in England or Europe. When he surprisingly signed up for Real Betis in 2019, it showcased the real lack of options from top teams, as he desperately wanted to leave Lyon for a new challenge.

However, the Frenchman has established himself as an important player with Betis, as he continues to provide the ammunition in the attack. Never short of scoring goals or laying assists, Fekir still has plenty of time to make a move into a bigger side in England or Europe.

Barring a quick extension, Fekir’s contract, as it expires in 2023, opens up the door for clubs to explore the chance to sign him in the January window or next summer. Newcastle United are one of the sides seemingly showing an interest.

Ever since the club’s high profile takeover concluded, Newcastle have been linked with players from all over, including this ambitious raid for Juventus duo Federico Chiesa and Matthijs de Ligt. These kinds of links are just the tip of the iceberg that is Newcastle, as plenty more high-profile names will be connected in the next days or weeks.

On the Fekir interest, Newcastle has reportedly contacted the Frenchman’s representatives to gauge his availability. These stories will certainly put some pressure on Real Betis, who might be forced to accelerate their extension plans for the attacking midfielder. However, if the Magpies convince Fekir’s entourage over a financially attractive move, the Frenchman could be swayed away to the Northeast of England.

Alternatively, it could also make other suitors such as Arsenal, Everton and West Ham think quickly about pursuing their interest in the Frenchman. In any case, the eyes are firmly set on Newcastle and what transpires as their next move towards signing Fekir.

The next few weeks will surely give more updates and developments on this story. Fekir could be a good signing for Newcastle, as they embark on a long journey to rebuild their squad to the quality needed to win trophies. In such a quest, the 28-year-old Frenchman could be a good addition, with whom the club can build further.
