Transfer News: Arsenal rekindle Max Aarons pursuit

Mikel Arteta wants an offensive right-back at Arsenal and has reportedly set his sights on Max Aarons, who might leave Norwich City next summer.

According to Fichajes, Arsenal are ready to rekindle their interest in Max Aarons to add an offensive right-back to their ranks next summer. Mikel Arteta would like to continue his recruitment drive to complete the rebuild of his Arsenal squad, with the 21-year-old Norwich City defender considered a key addition.

Arsenal may have solved their immediate problem at right-back on deadline day with the signing of Takehiro Tomiyasu. However, Mikel Arteta still needs a more offensive player in the position. While the Japan international has garnered rave reviews for his performances so far, he is still a very defensive option.

Tomiyasu’s arrival has certainly shored up the backline, although the right side contributes far less in the final third than anticipated. Hence, Arteta is seeking another option, a more offensive one, to balance out his squad options.

Much to Arteta’s dismay, Cedric Soares is not the player who fits the profile despite affording multiple chances to the Portuguese full-back. The Arsenal boss might be sold in the subsequent windows, as he is barely used since the arrival of Tomiyasu. Calum Chambers also plays in the position, who, like the Japanese, is more defensive.

So, Arteta is set to urge Arsenal to possibly make a signing next summer with Norwich City’s Max Aaron one of the top targets. The Canaries’ full-back has been a regular presence throughout the past few seasons, helping the club secure promotion to the Premier League twice in three seasons.

Aarons was linked with a move to Arsenal in the summer. However, the 21-year-old decided to stay put at Carrow Road heading into the 2021/22 season, which so far has been a disaster of sorts. Norwich are yet to register their first win, collecting just a point from their first seven Premier League games.

If the Canaries continue their dismal form, they are bound to be relegated at the end of the season. Aarons would be inclined to move away from the club in such a scenario, and Arsenal might take up the opportunity. The English defender was reportedly valued at £25 million during the summer but could be available for less next summer.

Aarons certainly fits the age criteria Arsenal have recently looked for in a new signing while the 21-year-old’s offensive profile certainly pleases Arteta. Arsenal also have several other right-back targets, with Tariq Lamptey and James Justin part of the list.
