Transfer News: Arsenal plotting January move for Caglar Soyuncu

Arsenal are interested in Caglar Soyuncu from Leicester City in January as Mikel Arteta eyes an opportunistic signing.

According to Transfer Market Web, Caglar Soyuncu is attracting interest from Arsenal, who could make a move for the central defender in January. The Gunners have been tracking the defender for some time, and an opportunity might present in January or next summer but they are likely to face competition.

Caglar Soyuncu has established himself as a formidable defender in the Premier League since signing up for Leicester three years ago. He has become a key part of Brendan Rodgers’ backline and impressed in a back-three last season.

This season, Soyuncu has been a little shaky, which could be due to many injuries within the Leicester backline, which has put much pressure on the Turkish star. He was subject of interest from many other Premier League sides in the summer, but the Foxes held on to him. Real Madrid are one of the sides that still retain interest.

However, with less than two years left on his contract, the interest could mount up next summer, as clubs could look to get him at a lower transfer fee. If a bigger club makes a concrete offer in January, it could tempt Soyuncu and the Foxes, who might end up losing the Turkish defender on a free transfer in 2023.

Arsenal are plotting an ambitious move for the central defender, possibly in the January window. The Gunners have been keen on the player for some time and explored the idea of signing him last summer. However, they ended up recruiting Ben White from Brighton in a £50 million deal.

The Gunners have a settled backline comprising Ben White and Gabriel, while another prospect, William Saliba, is due to return next summer from his loan at Marseille. However, the club could decide to offload fringe centre-backs Pablo Mari and Rob Holding, which might open up space for a quality defender.

If the price is right, Mikel Arteta might push the club to approach Leicester, although the Spanish manager would like to focus his attention on signing a midfielder and a striker in the next windows.

It’s highly unlikely that Arsenal will prioritise a move for Soyuncu, but if a defender of his quality becomes available, they might change their stance. The 25-year-old Turkey international might be tempted to play for Arsenal after some accomplished displayed in the Premier League.
