Tottenham Hotspur are scouting Boubacar Traore as they look to snap up another Metz midfielder prodigy after Pape Sarr.
According to The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur are keeping close tabs on Boubacar Traore. Their scouts have identified the 20-year-old Metz prodigy as one for the future, with the club hoping to seal a deal next summer.
Spurs have already poached a Metz talent this summer, in the form of Pape Sarr. The young midfielder joined the club on a permanent basis but was sent back to Metz, where he is now teammates with Traore.
A native of Bamako, the capital city of Mali, the 20-year-old had joined the club in 2019, for a fee of just €350,000. A central midfielder by trade, the youngster had made a solid impression during his time in the youth division, eventually earning a couple of call ups to the senior side at the end of last season.
This time around, Traore has notched up eight appearances in Ligue 1. He has been a bit-part player in the team so far, but many believe that the Malian could emerge as a long-term replacement for Sarr, who is set to return to North London at the end of the season.
Tottenham, though, intend on snapping up Boubacar Traore before he definitively makes his breakthrough at Metz and reunite him with Sarr in the Premier League.
It is apparent that new coach Nuno Espirito Santo, as well as managerial director Fabio Paratici, is eyeing a major revamp in the midfield department next season. Tottenham have been already linked with a swoop for Juventus’ Weston McKennie while Nahitan Nandez was identified as another option.
One would imagine Sarr would be considered as a long-term prospect for Tottenham rather than someone who can immediately improve the ranks in midfield. The youngster, after all, has shown immense potential during these early stages of the campaign, though a lot may depend on how the player fares during the remainder of the season.
However, in order to facilitate a move, the Lilywhites may need to offload some of their existing options. To their fortune, Tanguy Ndombele has been linked with a move to Spain whereas Harry Winks could be a potential target for Everton, should they miss out on Donny van de Beek, in the upcoming January transfer window.
