Transfer News: Raheem Sterling open to Barcelona switch

Barcelona have been given a major boost in their bid to land 26-year-old English international Raheem Sterling, who is open to joining the Blaugrana.

According to a report by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona remain in the hunt for Raheem Sterling and have now been handed a big boost in pursuit of the player. The 26-year-old forward is ready to leave Manchester City and would be open to making the switch to Camp Nou.

Raheem Sterling joined Manchester City from Liverpool in the summer of 2015 and has since gone on to establish himself as one of the best attacking players on show in the Premier League. A key figure for the Citizens for the longest time, his stature at the Etihad has been on the wane in recent times, even as his stock continues to skyrocket in international football.

So far this season, Sterling has started just four of the 10 games he has played, managing a meagre tally of one goal and assist apiece. However, despite not being one of the first-choice options for Pep Guardiola anymore, the English international’s stock remains as high as ever for some of his suitors, with Barcelona, in particular, keen on signing the 26-year-old.

Barcelona had, in fact, attempted to sign Sterling in the summer transfer window as well only to be unsuccessful in their chase. However, the interest has not waned much since then, with the Catalan giants now looking into the future to swoop him away from Manchester City.

Indeed, Barcelona are now lining up a January move for the 26-year-old, with the eagerness to sign him being understandable as well. That is because the Blaugrana appear to be desperately lacking goals following the summer departures of Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann, with Luuk de Jong failing to inspire any confidence.

That leaves Memphis Depay and Ansu Fati as the only viable goalscorers, with neither player really being as prolific as either Griezmann or Messi. With that in mind, Sterling would potentially be a fine addition for Barcelona, especially if Sergio Aguero can perform to potential after making his Barcelona bow following his recovery from a calf injury.

Now, Barcelona have been handed a major boost in pursuit of the English international, who is keen on leaving Manchester City and would be open to joining the Blaugrana. With that in mind, it remains to be seen if the Catalan outfit can secure the services of Sterling this winter.
