Crystal Palace are reportedly still tracking OGC Nice hitman Kasper Dolberg and are weighing up a swoop in the coming transfer window.

According to a report from TransferMarketWeb.com, Crystal Palace are still monitoring Nice forward Kasper Dolberg with Eagles boss Patrick Vieira keen on reuniting with his former ward from when in charge at OGC Nice.

After progressing through the youth ranks at Danish Superliga side Silkeborg, the teenage talent was snapped up by Dutch giants Ajax in 2015, where he continued his further development. After breaking into the first team, the youngster enjoyed a stellar debut campaign and soon became the main man upfront, scoring goals for fun.

A talented goalscorer, the hype was real around him with comparisons with Zlatan Ibrahimovic starting to circulate. He managed to score 11 goals in the 2018/19 season which earned him an £18.45 million move to Ligue 1 side OGC Nice. He finished his debut season as the club’s top scorer with 11 goals from 22 Ligue 1 outings but followed it up by a poor return of only 6 goals and 2 assists last campaign.

Dolberg enjoyed a fantastic European Championship this summer as he netted three goals from four games to remind everyone of his talent whilst firing Denmark into the semi-finals, where England knocked them out. He took that form into the current campaign and has already bagged 3 goals from 4 starts for Nice.

He was heavily linked with Crystal Palace this summer, but a move never materialized. Palace boss Patrick Vieira has been tasked with leading a massive rebuilding project at Selhurst Park. The club hierarchy has decided to invest in more talents with potential than experienced heads.

The South London club have struggled for goals in their past seasons, and the same seems to be the case in this campaign. They have only scored six times from the six league games, and while they created a decent amount of chances, their conversion rate is relatively low due to their misfiring frontline.

Christian Benteke and Jordan Ayew have been very inconsistent, while Jean-Philippe Mateta is only on loan and has failed to impress so far. They are heavily reliant on Wilfried Zaha to produce the goals, and although they have signed an excellent striker in Odsonne Edouard, they need to add more firepower upfront.

Moreover, with Ayew’s contract expiring next summer it would make things viable for the Eagles to replace him with a quality player like Dolberg. Standing at 6’2″ he possesses an athletic build to be aerially dominant, but there is more to his style of play than just being a target man. He is mobile, quick and has the technical quality to finish off the chances.

He has all the elements to suit the intense nature of Premier League, and at just 23, there is still room to grow and develop into a top striker in the coming years. Dolberg is contracted at Allianz Riviera until 2024 and it remains to be seen whether Palace step up their pursuit for the Denmark international or will look elsewhere.
