Transfer News: Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester United interested in Victor Osimhen

Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester United are reportedly among the clubs that are keen on signing 22-year-old Napoli striker Victor Osimhen

According to Italian journalist Ciro Venerato on Rai Sport program Domenica Sportiva, as relayed by The Sun Nigeria, Victor Osimhen is starting to become one of the most sought-after players in the transfer market, with the likes of Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester United among the clubs interested in signing the 22-year-old striker.

Osimhen joined Napoli from Lille in the summer of 2020, with the Serie A giants beating a lot of European bigwigs to secure his services. The Nigerian striker, though, did not start brightly at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, experiencing a lot of teething problems. However, after ending 2021/22 strongly, he has carried his momentum into the new season.

So far in the ongoing season, Osimhen has garnered a return of six goals and an assist in six outings across all competitions. Suffice to say, his exploits are starting to get noticed by some of the biggest clubs in Europe once again, with the likes of Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester United among those that are hot on his trails.

As per Italian journalist Ciro Venerato on Rai Sport program Domenica Sportiva (h/t The Sun Nigeria), Osimhen’s valuation has trebled, as he said, “Osimhen is already worth three times more. Chelsea, PSG, (Manchester) United and Real Madrid already like him.”

The interest from Real Madrid is interesting yet understandable, as they do need to lay down the succession plan for Karim Benzema despite his heroics in recent times. To that end, Los Blancos have had their sights set on Erling Haaland over a potential move next summer, although they do need to keep their options open amid widespread competition for his services.

Chelsea’s pursuit of the 22-year-old striker, though, is surprising, considering they brought in a long-term solution to lead their line in the form of Romelu Lukaku this past summer. And despite the uncertain future that Timo Werner is facing, it is hard to see how Osimhen will be able to be a regular for the Blues.

As for Manchester United, their interest in Osimhen makes a lot of sense amid the struggles of Anthony Martial, who could be on his way out of Old Trafford next summer. In addition, Edinson Cavani is the twilight of his career while Cristiano Ronaldo will also only be a short-term solution up front.

Apart from Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City have also been linked with the Napoli striker. And with the competition for his services increasing with every electric performance, it will be interesting to see if Napoli can keep hold of him next summer.
