Transfer News: Manchester City eye West Ham starlet Divin Mubama

Manchester City are reportedly plotting a raid on Premier League rivals West Ham United for the signing of teenage prospect Divin Mubama.

According to an exclusive report from Football Insider, Manchester City have set their sights firmly on West Ham United and England youth international striker Divin Mubama.

The 16-year-old forward is held in the highest of regards within West Ham and is seen as a future first-team star. Mubama boasts an impressive record of 11 goals and an assist from 26 appearances for the east London giants’ Under-18 side. However, he has been sidelined from action this season with an injury after a single appearance.

Mubama has represented the England national team at the Under-15 and Under-16 levels previously. He is currently part of the Under-17s. The teenage sensation is currently on a scholarship contract with West Ham United. But plans are already underway to hand him a professional contract when he turns 17 in a month’s time.

And, as per the report, his potential has alerted a number of clubs in England, with Manchester City said to be among them. The Cityzens are believed to be keeping a close eye on Mubama’s situation and would be ready to swoop in should the talks over a new deal at West Ham United do not go as per plans.

The Premier League champions have one of the best youth facilities in the country and have produced some exciting talent like Phil Foden, Liam Delap, Tommy Doyle, Lukas Nmecha, Felix Nmecha among others in recent years. Considering the Brexit rules that are coming into force, adding young homegrown talent is set to become vital with an eye on the future.

In that regard, someone like Mubama could be seen as a viable target for Pep Guardiola’s side. However, the youngster could have a faster track to the first-team at West Ham than he would at Manchester City.

Indeed, the report adds that the Hammers already have plans to push Mubama, along with a few other young talents like Jacob Knightbridge, Regan Clayton, Freddie Potts and Sonny Perkins, to the club’s Under-23 setup. Impressing there would certainly pave the way for the young striker to get a look-in into David Moyes’ senior setup.

It now remains to be seen what the future holds for Mubama, as he closes in on his 17th birthday.
