Liverpool are among the clubs interested in the services of Atalanta full-back Robin Gosens in the upcoming transfer windows in 2022.
According to Fichajes, Liverpool have identified Robin Gosens as a potential target for the next year. The Premier League giants are one of three clubs including Juventus and Inter Milan, who are vying for the services of the Atalanta full-back as he prepares for the next step in his career.
Gosens’ current contract expires in 2023 and he is being forecasted to leave Atalanta sooner rather than later, having already built a solid portfolio, especially at the international stage.
Indeed, the former VfL Rhede youngster has established himself as Germany’s first-choice option in the left-back position, moving ahead of Marcel Halstenberg, David Raum and Nico Schulz in the pecking order. He featured for Die Mannschaft during Euro 2020 and things aren’t expected to change in the 2022 FIFA World Cup next year.
Gosens’ performances for club and country has attracted the attention of Jurgen Klopp. It appears the Liverpool coach is determined to sign a new left-back who can offer competition for Andrew Robertson, especially with Kostas Tsimikas having fought with fitness problems ever since arriving from Greece.
Gosens fits the bill perfectly due to his versatility on the left-hand side on the pitch. He is, after all, a traditional wing-back who is known for his attacking prowess and ability to drive in crosses into the box, which tunes in well with Klopp’s style of play at Liverpool.
The German international also brings a considerable amount of experience at the highest level of football while his ability to play further forward means he can also provide cover for the likes of Sadio Mane and Diogo Jota at left-wing.
However, it will be difficult for Liverpool to fend off interest from Juventus and Inter Milan, as both the clubs can offer more game-time to the 27-year-old. One would imagine it could be an essential requirement for the player, with the FIFA World Cup just around the corner.
Liverpool are looking at other candidates including Charles de Ketelaere, but it will be interesting to see if the German connection between Klopp and Gosens proves to be useful in the pursuit of the Atalanta fullback, who most notably starred in the draw with Villarreal in the UEFA Champions League last week and will lock horns with Inter Milan and Young Boys over the next week.
