Transfer News: Tottenham told to pay €36 million to sign Nahitan Nandez

Tottenham Hotspur will reportedly need to stump up €36 million to secure the services of Nahitan Nandez in the January transfer window.

According to Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, Tottenham Hotspur have been told that the price tag of Nahitan Nandez has not changed, with Cagliari still pointing towards his €36 million release clause. Spurs are set to make a move for the Uruguayan midfielder again in the January transfer window.

Nahitan Nandez joined Cagliari from Boca Juniors in the summer of 2019 and has since gone on to establish himself as one of the most consistent performers in Serie A. An impressive player despite the Isolani’s struggles in recent times, the 25-year-old has ended up attracting some of the most well known clubs across Europe in the process.

Nandez was heavily linked with a potential summer exit from Cagliari as well, with the likes of Inter Milan, Leeds United and Tottenham Hotspur showing an interest in him. However, a move failed to materialise, with the Uruguayan midfielder since making three Serie A appearances for his current side.

The interest from Tottenham, though, has not waned, with Spurs now ready to make their move for him in the January transfer window. And the eagerness to sign Nandez makes sense as well, seeing as Tanguy Ndombele does not seem to be featuring in Nuno Espirito Santo’s plans.

Ndombele, like Nandez, was tipped to seek a new adventure in the summer before staying put at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. However, with his fortunes unlikely to improve dramatically, getting in a versatile player like Nandez could work well for the north London giants.

The information from Rudy Galetti suggests that Tottenham are indeed set to open talks with Cagliari over a move for Nandez soon. However, the Serie A strugglers are not budging from their valuation, and have remained insistent that the €36 million release clause be triggered to sign him.

What now remains to be seen is if Tottenham are ready to shell out €36 million to secure the services of the 25-year-old in the January transfer window. If not, it will be interesting to see if they identify any alternatives for Nandez in time before the winter window shuts down.
