Chelsea star Marcos Alonso has emerged as one of the potential targets for Inter Milan as they look to reinforce the full-back department.

According to Calciomercato, Inter Milan are ready to reinforce their full-back unit and identified three potential targets. Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso has been listed as among the three candidates, alongside VfB Stuttgart’s Borna Sosa and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Filip Kostic.

With both the Bundesliga duo’s profile on the rise, Alonso can be perceived as a fallback option, although the Nerazzurri have been linked with a move for the Spaniard in the past as well. The player himself faces an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge, even though it appears the defender has not been completely ostracized by Thomas Tuchel.

Indeed, Alonso has started all three of Chelsea’s matches in the Premier League this term, even starring in the opening day win over Crystal Palace with an excellent goal from a free-kick. His impressive performances have kept Ben Chilwell on the bench whilst putting Inter Milan on red alert.

Like most Italian clubs, the Nerazzurri haven’t enjoyed a good transfer market, as they have had to deal with the departure of Achraf Hakimi to Paris Saint-Germain while Romelu Lukaku has opted to return to Chelsea. They also released Ashley Young, who has returned to the Premier League by joining Aston Villa this summer.

But his departure has created a void in Inter’s left-back unit, which is where Alonso comes into the fray. It appears new manager Simone Inzaghi rates him highly due to his experience in Italian football, having previously made 85 competitive appearances for Fiorentina.

The Spaniard offers a lot of experience to the table, in general, with 170 competitive appearances for Chelsea as well. He was most recently linked to Sevilla, who had wanted him and Malang Sarr included in a swap deal to sign Jules Kounde. Unfortunately for the Blues, the move for the Frenchman broke down on deadline day.

And in an attempt to sign him up in January, it won’t be surprising to see the reigning European champions cashing in on Alonso. However, it is fair to reiterate that the 30-year-old is certainly not Inter’s priority target and a move can only materialise if the Italian champions fail in their attempts to sign Sosa or Kostic in the upcoming transfer window.
