Manchester United are tipped to return to the market for Kieran Trippier in the January transfer window.

A recent report from Mundo Deportivo, as relayed by Sport Witness. has offered an update on the future of Kieran Trippier. The Atletico Madrid right-back was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United in the summer, even up until the deadline day, but the newly crowned Spanish champions rebuffed a €21 million offer, holding out for a €40 million release clause.

The demands put off the Red Devils, who were unwilling to splash the cash on the defender, especially after securing the deal to sign Cristiano Ronaldo. But it appears the Premier League giants could enter the market once again for Trippier, in the upcoming winter transfer window.

There is no hiding the fact that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is worried about Manchester United’s lack of depth at right-back. Aaron Wan-Bissaka hasn’t had the greatest of starts to the season and had to endure a difficult few months overall. They did have Axel Tuanzebe as an alternative, but the youngster defender was shipped to Aston Villa on a season-long loan deal.

It leaves Solskjaer with Diogo Dalot as the only backup for Wan-Bissaka heading into the new season. The Portuguese international, though, is not highly rated at the club, even though they had to block his move to Borussia Dortmund due to the lack of an alternative Wan-Bissaka at right-back.

In Trippier, Solskjaer could find himself an ideal solution to this problem. The former Burnley man has a wealth of experience not only in English football but at the highest stage in general, having 71 appearances for Atletico Madrid as well as almost 300 combined appearances for Tottenham and Burnley respectively.

The Englishman should offer a lot of tactical variety as well, as he is typically advertised as an attacking fullback who likes to make marauding runs forward. The contrasting style of play from Trippier and Wan-Bissaka could ultimately add another dimension in Manchester United’s right-back department and the additional competition should definitely bring the best out of each other.

Atletico Madrid are also more likely to cash in on Trippier in the January transfer window, having added Antoine Griezmann to their wage bill late in the window. But it remains to be seen whether they are willing to lower their valuation for the English international, who has had a certain degree of success under Diego Simeone.
