Transfer News: Reiss Nelson set to join Feyenoord on loan

Reiss Nelson will be leaving Arsenal on a temporary deal to join Feyenoord after the Dutch side failed to sign Amad Diallo.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Reiss Nelson could complete a move to Feyenoord on a season-long loan deal from Arsenal. The move comes after talks between both clubs concluded with Nelson looking to proper playing time this season.

Reiss Nelson could resurrect his career after the last two years seem to have stalled his development. The winger hardly played under Mikel Arteta the previous season when his early signs were promising. However, it looks like the Arsenal boss does not rate the English winger, and a move benefits all parties.

Nelson has a contract with Arsenal until 2023, and the Gunners might get something next season depending on his performances this term and the demand next summer. A move to Feyenoord could well suit him to play away from a high-pressure zone such as the Premier League to find his form and rhythm again possibly.

A move to Feyenoord will certainly suit both the player and the Dutch side. The Eredivise side were looking for a winger in this window and were close to signing Manchester United’s promising star Amad Diallo. Last January, the Ivorian arrived in much hype, and early games in a red shirt indicated plenty of promise.

However, the presence of many senior stars at Old Trafford and the latest additions of Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho could prevent Diallo from getting game time this season. To aid his development, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer thought a season in the Dutch league, away from the pressure, would do him good.

Diallo suffered a late muscle injury in training which effectively ruled out a move. As a result, Feyenoord switched their attention to Nelson, who was also reportedly chased by Crystal Palace. In his case, there might not have been concrete proposals from Premier League clubs, who might not want to take a risk on a player who has not featured for nearly a year.

As things stand, Nelson would join Feyenoord on a season-long loan deal, while there are no indications over a buy-option of any sort. It will be a good move for him and Arsenal, who could trim their squad a bit before the transfer deadline as the north Londoners are still looking to offload many more players.
