Leicester City are reportedly hopeful of completing a late swoop for RB Leipzig’s wantaway winger Ademola Lookman.

According to The Athletic, Leicester City are in the market for Ademola Lookman. The RB Leipzig winger has been identified as an ideal candidate as Brendan Rodgers looks to add some much-needed depth in the attacking department. Both the player and the club are said to be keen on getting the deal over the line.

A native of London, Lookman is a product of the Charlton Athletic youth academy and had a stint at Everton before joining Leipzig in January 2018. His move to Germany was made permanent in 2019 after failing to make an impact on his return to Everton during the 2018/19 campaign. But the forward soon fell out of favour under new Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann.

The Englishman even had to play for Fulham on loan last summer, although it was sort of a successful one as he was involved in eight goals. It was not enough to save the Cottagers from the wrath of relegation, but it appears to have impressed Rodgers, as he looks to find an emergency backup for Harvey Barnes.

The Leicester City winger is apparently the only viable option at left-wing for the club right now. And with the Foxes dealing with the burden of playing in four different competitions yet again this season, there are growing concerns over the lack of depth in the wide attacking department.

The Foxes have been recently linked with a move for David Neres of Ajax. However, the Brazilian may cost a fortune and the club is already facing stiff competition from Lyon. To that end, Lookman appears to be an ideal cost-effective alternative, who can bring Premier League experience to the table.

Although it remains to be seen how much Leipzig value the former Everton winger, it won’t exceed Neres’ price tag given his struggles these past few years. However, there are concerns over the Bundesliga giants’ intention of offloading Lookman, given the fact that they already lost too many players this summer.

Ibrahima Konate and Marcel Sabitzer have both joined Bayern Munich while Hwang hee-Chan was recently offloaded to Wolves. They couldn’t sign Justin Kluivert on a permanent deal either, leaving the Roten Bullen potentially shorthanded in the attacking department.

It is partly why Leicester City still have a long way to go before they can reach an agreement over the transfer of Ademola Lookman. And with the clock ticking, it will be interesting to see if they can get the deal over the line within the next 24 hours.
