Newcastle United have expressed the desire to sign Everton superstar James Rodriguez, who is wanted by Steve Bruce.

According to football journalist Ekrem Konur, Newcastle United have shockingly entered the market for James Rodriguez. The Everton playmaker is supposedly unsettled at Goodison Park following the departure of Carlo Ancelotti, who has joined Real Madrid in the summer.

Newcastle are viewing this as an opportunity to snap him up this summer, with the Colombian being highly favoured by manager Steve Bruce. The Magpies even plan to hold talks with Everton for James, hoping to strike a potential deal that could certainly make waves in the transfer market.

The Tyneside outfit have already done some good business in this window, notably bringing in last season’s star performer Joe Willock on a permanent deal from Arsenal.

The further addition of James Rodriguez could certainly add some real firepower to their creative department that has often appeared reliant on the services of Allan Saint-Maximin. As such, Bruce is keen on bolstering his options, either centrally or out wide.

James, though, could be a bit too unrealistic option for the Magpies. The former Bayern Munich star had only joined Everton because of Ancelotti, so it is highly unlikely that he would want to join a club that are likely to be battling towards the bottom end of the Premier League table.

Everton, too, won’t be all too keen on offloading the 30-year-old to one of their direct rivals. However, it is fair to point out that the Toffees have already begun their search for a potential replacement, with Weston McKennie of Juventus emerging as one of the latest targets for Rafa Benitez.

Newcastle United themselves, meanwhile, are currently prioritising a move for a holding midfielder rather than a number ten. Leicester City’s Hamza Choudhury is one of their top targets, as the Englishman can offer stability in the middle of the park alongside Jonjo Shelvey.

As for Rodriguez, he was linked with a sensational return to Bernabeu earlier this summer. But such speculations haven’t gathered much pace, with Ancelotti willing to make do with his existing options without spending big in the market.

The Colombian international may have serious problems finding a suitor after seeing his progress at Goodison Park stalled by an injury that restricted him to just 21 starts in the Premier League last term. A move to Newcastle, however, seems a bit far-fetched at this point.
