Transfer News: Tottenham join race to sign Kurt Zouma

Tottenham have reportedly entered the chase for Kurt Zouma, who is valued at around £25 million by Chelsea and is set for a summer move.

According to a report by Sky Sports, Tottenham Hotspur have joined the race to sign Kurt Zouma in the summer transfer window. The French defender, who is valued at around £25 million, appears set to leave Chelsea this month and has also been targeted by West Ham United.

Kurt Zouma joined Chelsea from Saint-Etienne in January 2014 before then going on to grow in stature in the next couple of full seasons. However, the Frenchman has endured a roller-coaster of a ride at Stamford Bridge since recovering from a long-term knee injury, which has evidently hampered him a lot.

Over the last couple of seasons, the 26-year-old, who was once touted to be one of the most promising defenders in the Premier League, has been constantly in and out of the side, with the advent of Trevoh Chalobah sending him further down the pecking order. As a result, it has been mooted that Zouma could be leaving Chelsea this summer, with Tottenham now interested in him.

Tottenham have previously shown an interest in Zouma as well, although of late, they have been hot on the trails of Nikola Milenkovic. However, in Zouma, Spurs can sign a defender who has years of experience in the Premier League, which will come in crucial as they look to move over the likes of Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez.

Apart from Tottenham, West Ham United have also been heavily linked with the Chelsea man. But, his £25 million valuation has proven to be problematic for the Hammers, who might not be able to afford his wages either. As a result, Tottenham could get a clear run at the French international, who wants to stay put in London after leaving Chelsea.

Chelsea had even tried to include Zouma in the deal to sign Jules Kounde, which is not a favourable scenario for the Frenchman either. Meanwhile, Zouma is also happy to stay put at Chelsea if a deal for his exit cannot be struck between the Blues and an interested party.

What now remains to be seen is if Tottenham are open to shelling out £25 million to secure the services of the 26-year-old or if they keep their focus on signing Milenkovic instead. As things stand, Spurs have a couple of solid options to consider and it will be interesting to see if Zouma makes a cross-London switch from Chelsea to Spurs.
