Transfer News: Real Madrid, Tottenham keeping tabs on Marcelo Brozovic

Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly among the clubs that are closely tracking the situation of Marcelo Brozovic.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Marcelo Brozovic could be on his way out of Inter Milan before the summer transfer window slams shut. And there are several clubs keeping tabs on the 28-year-old’s situation, including European powerhouse Real Madrid, as well as Tottenham Hotspur.

Marcelo Brozovic has come leaps and bounds since joining Inter Milan from Dinamo Zagreb in the summer of 2016. A lanky central midfielder who was prone to the odd error half a decade ago has now become a powerhouse of a midfielder, playing a key role in the Nerazzurri’s ascent during this period, which culminated with the Serie A title triumph last season.

To date, Brozovic has made 242 appearances for Inter Milan while chipping in with 25 goals and 32 assists along the way. However, the 28-year-old is facing an uncertain future at San Siro after entering the final year of his contract, with developments over a renewal being eerily slow. This has alerted Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur among others.

Real Madrid have been reported to be in the market for a central midfielder this summer, which makes a lot of sense, considering Martin Odegaard has been deemed to be surplus to requirements. In addition, Dani Ceballos and Isco could well be on their way out of the club this summer as well.

Add to it the fact that Luka Modric is in the twilight of his career whereas Toni Kroos is also on the wrong side of 30 and it is clear that Real Madrid can do with a midfield reinforcement or two, with Nicolo Barella, Franck Kessie and Denis Zakaria among their targets. And now, Barella’s teammate Brozovic has emerged as a viable target as well, although Tottenham will provide competition in his pursuit.

Tottenham, like Real Madrid, need to sign a midfielder this summer, amid recent developments pointing towards a potential exit for Tanguy Ndombele. In addition, Harry Winks could be on his way out of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as well, with Everton among his suitors, while Moussa Sissoko is approaching the final phase of his career.

So, while Oliver Skipp made quite an impression against Manchester City this past weekend, there is no denying the fact that Spurs could do with a midfield addition. Meanwhile, Real Madrid and Tottenham have even more company in pursuit of the 28-year-old, with Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich also monitoring his situation.

As per the report, Brozovic wants Inter Milan to raise his wages from €4.2 million-a-year to €5.5 million, which might not favour the Serie A champions amid a financial crunch. So, with Brozovic in the final year of his contract, this might be the Nerazzurri’s last chance to recoup a decent sum from his sale, and it remains to be seen if Real Madrid or Tottenham can land him.
