Transfer News: Liverpool prepared to offer £40 million to sign Ismaila Sarr

Liverpool are ready to offer £40 million for long term target Ismaila Sarr, although Watford might want more.

According to Transfer Market Web, Liverpool are ready to reignite their interest in Ismaila Sarr and follow up with an offer. The Reds are reportedly prepared to make a £40 million bid for the Watford winger, who excelled last season in the Championship, but the Hornets might demand more.

It’s not the first time Liverpool and Ismaila Sarr have seen their names taken together. The Merseysiders were linked with the Senegal international following Watford’s relegation from the Premier League in 2019/20. Sarr decided to stay put with the Hornets and helped them return to the top flight on the first time of asking.

He has begun life back in the Premier League in style, getting a goal in Watford’s opening day victory over Aston Villa. The Hornets are counting on him to deliver this season and help them stay up in the league. However, a huge offer from Liverpool might tempt the player and the club in the closing stages of the transfer window.

A £40 million bid from the Reds has been suggested, although Watford might demand more. The Hornets had paid Stade Rennes £27 million for the winger and would want a healthy profit over their investment if they decide to sell.

Liverpool has been inactive since signing Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig at the beginning of the transfer window. There have been calls for Jurgen Klopp to strengthen his squad before the window shuts, while suggestions have been made to sign an attacker and midfielder.

The Merseysiders have wealth of options in attack with Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Diogo Jota and Roberton Firmino all in their ranks. However, Klopp might want cover for these stars, especially in the wider attacking areas. They have also been linked with Belgian star Jeremy Doku, but Sarr could be preferred due to his pedigree in English football.

At 24 years of age, Sarr represents a future value for Klopp, who he can develop into one of Salah or Mane’s long-term replacements. However, a move might depend on Watford, with whom the winger still has a contract until 2024.

Liverpool’s expected offer of 40 million might be deemed insufficient by Watford, and if the Hornets demand more, the Reds might either negotiate or look elsewhere. Sarr could also have his say, as, at his current club, he will be a sure starter, but at Anfield, he might find himself more often on the bench than on the field.
