Chelsea star Tammy Abraham wants to remain in the Premier League with Arsenal with ‘personal terms’ worth €5 million-a-year already being agreed.
According to a report from Transfer Market Web, Chelsea has agreed to AS Roma’s proposal of a two-year loan deal with an obligation to purchase for €35 million for Tammy Abraham. But, the striker is keen on a cross-London switch to Arsenal to remain in the Premier League and has already agreed on the personal terms of almost €5 million-per-year offered by the Gunners.
Roma’s general manager Tiago Pinto has reportedly flown to London for a discussion with Abraham’s representatives and was also seen at Chelsea’s UEFA Super Cup triumph over Villarreal, but it is understood that all those talks could prove unsuccessful as the player is not interested in a move to Italy.
After a couple of successful loan spells, Abraham finally rose to prominence at Chelsea in the 2019-20 season when he netted 18 goals for Frank Lampard’s young guns.
He was one of the shining lights at Stamford Bridge that year. However, things have turned upside down pretty quickly; the midseason arrival of Thomas Tuchel saw him falling out of favour, and he has struggled for regular playing time since then.
Despite getting limited game-time, he ended the last season as the club’s joint-top scorer in all competitions with 12 goals alongside Timo Werner. Jose Mourinho is a firm admirer of Englishman’s goalscoring talents and wants to bring him to Stadio Olimpico as a replacement for outgoing talisman Edin Dzeko, who is on the verge of a move to Inter to complete the Romelu Lukaku’s transfer cycle.
As for Arsenal, Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have both shown their frailties last campaign, especially Aubameyang, who turned into a liability at times last season; it seems age is catching up to the Gabonese international. Abraham would be another fantastic signing from the Arsenal hierarchy, as he has proven himself to be a potent goalscorer and remarkably good at link-up play.
Though the player’s desire is considered to be an ultimatum in a transfer, Arsenal will still have to face many difficulties in acquiring the 23-year-old’s services as Chelsea would not want to lose one of their assets to a direct rival. It will be interesting to see whether or not the Gunners can get this transfer over the line.
For now, a move to Roma looks like a distant prospect as Abraham angles for a move to the Emirates this summer.
