Transfer News: Chelsea set to make move for Jules Kounde

Chelsea are prepared to make a move for 22-year-old French defender Jules Kounde, who is facing an uncertain future at Sevilla due to the financial crisis.

According to a recent report from Diario de Sevilla, Chelsea have been put on red alert as they look to take advantage of Jules Kounde’s precarious situation at Sevilla. The club is uncertain over the future of the talented French international, who is one of Thomas Tuchel’s main targets in the transfer market this summer.

Chelsea are even expected to make a fresh move for Kounde once they complete the acquisition of Romelu Lukaku. The Inter Milan forward’s move to Stamford Bridge is now imminent, having reached an agreement earlier this month. The completion of the deal should enable the Blues to set their sights on Kounde, as they look to wrap up business before the start of the season.

There is no doubt about the fact that Chelsea have been preparing for the addition of a star player like Kounde. Earlier this summer, they had shipped Fikayo Tomori to AC Milan on a permanent deal in an attempt to trim the defensive unit and make space for a potential new signing.

In addition to Tomori, the Blues have shown the desire to offload Kurt Zouma. The French international is not included in Tuchel’s plans for the new season as he believes he has enough quality at his disposal, especially if the Chelsea boss can get his hands on Kounde.

The Sevilla centre-back has already established himself as one of the finest defensive talents in world football, thanks to a couple of highly successful seasons in La Liga. He has built quite a partnership with Diego Carlos, helping Sevilla restore their glory under the leadership of Julen Lopetegui.

The youngster was even involved in the French national side that participated in UEFA Euro 2020. And now it appears he is ready to take the next step in his career by moving to west London.

At Chelsea, Kounde is likely to be considered as a direct, long-term successor for the ageing Thiago Silva. Both the defenders are short in stature but are gifted with intelligence and technical prowess that hands them superiority over their opponents.

The player himself appears to be keen on joining Chelsea, knowing the Blues could hand the 22-year-old an ideal platform to showcase his talents on the world stage and eventually become one of the best defenders in Europe. What now remains to be seen is if Chelsea can quickly agree a deal for the French international once they launch the offensive for him.
