Transfer News: PSG agree two-year deal with Lionel Messi

Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly reached an agreement over a two-year deal to sign Lionel Messi, who is leaving Barcelona as a free agent.

According to a report by French publication Le Parisien, Lionel Messi is closing in on joining Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer. The Barcelona legend, who has departed Camp Nou as a free agent, has agreed to a two-year deal with the Ligue 1 heavyweights.

Lionel Messi is perhaps the greatest player to have ever kicked a football. His spell at Barcelona is one that cannot possibly be emulated. And so, when it was announced that Messi was leaving the Catalan club as a free agent, it came as nothing short of a shell-shock, and has felt like the end of an era.

On Sunday, Messi bid a tearful goodbye to Barcelona in a press conference that was nothing short of an emotional wreck. With that, a legendary spell has come to an end – one in which he amassed an astonishing record of 672 goals and 305 assists in 778 appearances. As for the next step in his career, Messi looks set to join Paris Saint-Germain.

The diminutive Argentine wizard was fleetingly linked with Chelsea as well, but PSG have quickly moved ahead to reach an agreement with him. In a window that has seen them add a host of top-notch talents to an already world class squad, Messi’s arrival singlehandedly takes Les Parisiens to the next level.

Indeed, the Ligue 1 heavyweights have already signed Sergio Ramos, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Georginio Wijnaldum and Achraf Hakimi, with their attack now becoming arguably the most formidable unit in the world, with Messi set to reunite with Neymar while also joining Kylian Mbappe and Angel Di Maria in the PSG frontline.

The French giants have now agreed a two-year deal with Messi following extensive meetings with his entourage. The 34-year-old now appears set to make his way to Parc des Princes this week before being unveilled as the latest world class PSG signing.
