Aston Villa are eyeing a sensational Villa Park return for Tammy Abraham, who will likely leave Chelsea this summer.

According to The Telegraph, Aston Villa have set their sights on Tammy Abraham as a priority signing in an attempt to further enhance their attacking ranks. The Chelsea forward is being viewed as a key target as Dean Smith continues his spending spree this summer.

Indeed, Villa have already brought in Emi Buendia from the jaws of Arsenal earlier this summer while they have agreed terms with Bayer Leverkusen over Leon Bailey. The two players are expected to add more quality in the creative department, but it appears the club is looking for a proper number nine in the shape of Abraham.

Coming on the back of a disappointing spell under Thomas Tuchel last season, the former Swansea City loanee has been deemed surplus to requirements. He is not rated by the German tactician, with Chelsea on the hunt for a top-class centre forward like Romelu Lukaku or Erling Haaland this summer.

It opens the door for Abraham to leave Stamford Bridge. Although his fortunes under Tuchel haven’t been bright, Aston Villa do recognise his quality, with the Englishman having previously spent the 2018/19 season on loan at Villa Park.

The 23-year-old had scored as many as 25 goals for Villa, helping the club seal promotion to the Premier League. He ended up returning to Stamford Bridge, where he was a crucial part of Frank Lampard’s attacking unit during the 2019/20 campaign, even scoring 15 goals.

Abraham certainly has the pedigree of performing at the highest level of football. And Aston Villa are hoping that he can replicate his goalscoring form in the Premier League next season, as the club braces itself for life without star player Jack Grealish.

The English international is highly expected Manchester City this summer, with the Premier League champions ready to splurge £100 million. The deal will effectively make him the most expensive player in the history of the English top-flight, effectively giving Aston Villa a major financial boost.

Abraham is valued at around £40 million by Chelsea. Villa will be in position to afford a deal if they can sanction the departure of Grealish. However, they are set to face stiff competition from Arsenal and West Ham in the pursuit of the London native, with Arsenal even ready to meet his wage demands.
