Chelsea have reportedly set their sights on 25-year-old French defender Presnel Kimpembe over a move in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by French publication L’Equipe, Chelsea are interested in signing Presnel Kimpembe from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer transfer window. However, clinching a deal for the 25-year-old French international will be riddled with a gamut of obstacles.
Presnel Kimpembe has grown leaps and bounds since breaking into the Paris Saint-Germain first-team setup in 2014. Now one of the vice-captains at Parc des Princes, the 25-year-old has turned into a pivotal player for the Ligue 1 giants, going on to amass 180 appearances for the club.
At the same time, Kimpembe has also established himself as a regular for the French national side, with his stock continuously rising in the last couple of years. Suffice to say, his performances have been noticed by some of the biggest clubs in the world. Real Madrid have already been linked with the player, who has now emerged as the subject of interest from Chelsea.
The interest from Chelsea is not too surprising, considering they are in a precarious position over the future of Antonio Rudiger, with negotiations over a new contract dragging on longer than anticipated. In addition, it has been mooted that Kurt Zouma could be on his way out of Stamford Bridge this summer.

As a result, it is understandable why the Blues would want to sign a central defender for a second successive summer, Thiago Silva’s advancing age notwithstanding. To that end, the likes of Gianluca Mancini, Maxence Lacroix and Diego Carlos are among the centre-backs to have been linked with Chelsea. And now, Kimpembe has emerged as a viable target as well.
However, Chelsea will face a number of stumbling blocks in pursuit of the 25-year-old. For one, the French international himself might be reluctant to call it quits at PSG despite the arrival of Sergio Ramos. Indeed, Kimpembe is waiting to see how his role evolves in the coming season before taking any calls on his future.
Therefore, any potential move for the defender will need to wait till January at the very least, as things stand. Nevertheless, it looks like Chelsea could make their move for Kimpembe and it will be interesting to see if a transfer can see the light of the day this summer.
