Transfer News: Chelsea lodge straight cash £130 million bid for Erling Haaland

Chelsea are reportedly prepared to make an offer of around £130 million for Erling Haaland after receiving backing of owner Roman Abramovic

According to Football Insider, Chelsea are prepared to make a huge offer for Erling Haaland. The Premier League side are readying a bid of up to £130 million for the 21-year-old Norwegian striker and hope to tempt Borussia Dortmund into a sale, despite their earlier insistence on a higher transfer fee.

Borussia Dortmund have maintained their stance throughout the summer that star striker Erling Haaland will remain at the club for the coming season. Having already made the big money sale of Jadon Sancho to Manchester United, the Bundesliga giants may not particularly need to sell anymore, but things can change in football.

The prospect of Erling Haaland leaving in this window won’t be ideal to Dortmund from a footballing perspective, but if they receive an unbelievable offer, they could consider a deal. The Norwegian striker is reportedly valued at £150 million, although he could leave for half that price next summer due to a release clause in his Dortmund deal.

Manchester City and Chelsea have been in the running to sign the 21-year-old, and realistically the only clubs who could afford Haaland in the current financial climate. Chelsea has emerged as the front-runners in the weeks gone and were expected to make a sizable offer sooner rather than later. The Blues are ready to step up and table a huge bid for the forward.

Back in June, it was reported that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovic was taking an active interest in the deal and was leading talks with Dortmund for Haaland. The latest reports suggest the Chelsea  owner is ready to bankroll the move after setting a limit to the tune of £130 million for the striker.

It means that Chelsea would have to persuade Dortmund to agree to a deal under that price. While the Bundesliga outfit are looking at considerably more than £130 million, a deal could still be stuck depending on how far the Premier League heavyweights want to go.

It is widely expected of Chelsea to make an opening offer and then run the course over negotiations to determine the final value. But Abramovic has reportedly made it clear; the final amount cannot go beyond £130 million. Manchester City, their closest rival in this chase, are focusing their efforts over a £160 million offer for Harry Kane, Chelsea might be the only team in the running for the Norwegian.

The fact that Haaland is available for around £64 million next summer would invite plenty of other teams into the equation; Chelsea want to pay a premium now to acquire him in this window. Thomas Tuchel wants to build his side after winning the Champions League and wants a player like the Norwegian as an upgrade.

Tuchel is already making room in the squad to accommodate a striker after letting Olivier Giroud leave and transfer-listed Tammy Abraham, with Arsenal interested. Haaland certainly has top statistics compared to those strikers and Chelsea’s existing forwards, such as Timo Werner and Kai Havertz.

With Chelsea convinced to do a deal, they are expected to make an offer soon, although it won’t be £130 million. The Blues will eventually go up to that price or more, depending on how hard Dortmund negotiate. If the Bundesliga giants want to cash in, we might see Haaland play in England next season.
