Tottenham Hotspur are weighing up a €25 million bid for Mikkel Damsgaard, who is valued at €35 million by Sampdoria.

According to the print edition of La Repubblica, as relayed by Calciomercato, Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a summer swoop for Mikkel Damsgaard. They are considering a €25 million approach for the Sampdoria winger, whose performances in Euro 2020 have earned him a lot of traction in the European market.

Sampdoria’s initial stance is to keep hold of Damsgaard beyond this summer. But amid the financial restraints caused by the pandemic, they could be forced to cash in, should any club choose to come up with a substantial bid for the player. The Serie A outfit currently value Damsgaard at €35 million, and for good reason, with the winger having made quite an impact since arriving from Nordsjaelland in 2020.

In just a year, the young Dane became a crucial first-team player for Sampdoria, featuring in 35 league matches last season. His tally of two goals and four assists aren’t particularly eye-catching. But the attacker’s overall contributions have been far greater when it comes to his dynamism in the final third and expertise from dead balls situations.

It was captured perfectly in the game against England at the Euros when the youngster scored the tournament’s only goal from a direct free-kick. Although Denmark were knocked out in the semi-final, Damsgaard was his nation’s best performer, netting twice in five matches and filling the creative void left behind by Christian Eriksen.

Damsgaard will be given a similar task if he joins Tottenham in the summer. Indeed, the Lilywhites are on the lookout for talents who can offer the creative essence in the final third, perhaps in the wake of Harry Kane’s potential departure. The Englishman is courted heavily by Manchester City, who are ready to fork out a large sum to secure his services in the summer.

Tottenham have been already linked with a move for a host of creative players, with Jesus Corona emerging as the latest option. It appears new coach Nuno Espirito Santo is determined to shore up his options in the final third, as he looks to usher in a new era at Spurs.

Unfortunately, their potential €25 million offer might not be enough to secure the services of Damsgaard. It is perhaps fair to point out that Real Madrid are the other club interested in the Danish international, with Los Blancos prepared to shell out as much as €40 million this summer, potentially making Tottenham an outsider, as far as this transfer pursuit is concerned.
