Ferran Torres is reportedly one of several star performers at UEFA Euro 2020 who have been closely monitored by Real Madrid.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Real Madrid made it a point to keep tabs on some of the most impressive performers at UEFA Euro 2020. One among such players is Ferran Torres, with the 21-year-old Manchester City forward now being eyed as a possible reinforcement for the summer transfer window.
Ferran Torres progressed through the ranks at Valencia after joining their academy aged six. The Spanish winger got his big break with Los Che in the 2017/18 season and spent his formative years in senior football with the club before joining Manchester City last summer.
The 21-year-old made a bit of a slow start to life at the Etihad but steadily grew in stature to end 2020/21 as a Premier League champion and a tally of 13 goals and three assists in 36 appearances across all competitions. His progress seems to have alerted another elite European club, with Real Madrid setting their sights on him.
Torres is one of several star performers who have been tracked at UEFA Euro 2020 by Real Madrid, with another such forward being Raheem Sterling, who has been a pivotal figure for England. As for Torres, he began as a backup option for Spain boss Luis Enrique before grabbing his opportunities with both hands whenever afforded one.
The interest in Torres makes a lot of sense for Real Madrid, who suffered a great deal last season due to the inconsistencies of youngsters like Marco Asensio, Rodrygo Goes and Vinicius Jr. While Lucas Vazquez stepped up in impressive fashion, the Spaniard is not prolific enough to take some of the burden off of Karim Benzema.
With Eden Hazard’s fitness issues not relenting one bit, it has been clear since the latter stages of 2020/21 that Real Madrid ought to be aggressive in the transfer market for a wide forward, making Torres a viable target. Apart from the 21-year-old Manchester City forward, Dani Olmo is another Spanish international who has been closely monitored by Los Blancos at UEFA Euro 2020.
What now remains to be seen is if Real Madrid end up launching the offensive for Ferran Torres or if they decide to seriously pursue some other UEFA Euro 2020 star instead. For now, the youngster has become the subject of a possible transfer and it will be interesting to see if he leaves Premier League champions Manchester City after just one season if the Merengues make their move for him.
