Real Madrid legend Sergio Ramos has completed a free transfer to Paris Saint-Germain, joining the Ligue 1 giants on a two-year deal.
Paris Saint-Germain have made an official statement to confirm that they have secured the services of Sergio Ramos. The Real Madrid legend joins the Ligue 1 giants on a two-year contract that ties him at Parc des Princes until June 30, 2023.
Sergio Ramos is coming off a legendary 16-year stint with Real Madrid, with whom he won every trophy at club level multiple times. Los Blancos‘ captain for the last six seasons, the 35-year-old’s greatest achievement was leading Real Madrid to a historic three-peat of the UEFA Champions League between 2016 and 2018.
A winner of 25 titles with club and country over the course of his illustrious career, Ramos has also won the FIFA World Cup as well as the European Championship (twice) with Spain. As for his time at Real Madrid, the veteran defender raked in 671 appearances for the Merengues, chipping in with an astonishing 101 goals and 40 assists as well.
His stint with Real Madrid, though, came to a rather unceremonious end upon the turn of the month, as Ramos saw out his contract with the La Liga heavyweights following a protracted saga of negotiations over a renewal which ultimately came to naught. With neither Ramos nor Real Madrid seemed budging on their terms, the player officially parted ways with the Spanish club.

Ramos, though, had no shortage of suitors, with Premier League bigwigs like Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United all being hot on his trails all throughout his impasse with Real Madrid. However, as soon as his departure from Real Madrid was announced, it had become clear that PSG were the favourites to snap him up.
Recent reports had even suggested that the Ligue 1 giants were set to sign him on a two-year deal, which is indeed the case, with Ramos penning a contract that runs until June 30, 2023. Upon the completion of his switch to PSG, the 35-year-old defender expressed his delight at making the switch to Paris.
The Real Madrid legend said, “I am very happy to join Paris Saint-Germain, Sergio Ramos revealed after signing his contract. This is a big change in my life, a new challenge and it’s a day I will never forget.”
“I am very proud to be a part of this ambitious project, to be a part of this squad with so many great players. Paris Saint-Germain is a club that has already proven itself at the highest level. I want to continue to grow and improve at Paris and help the team to win as many trophies as possible.”
His addition to the squad beefs up Mauricio Pochettino’s options considerably, with PSG crying out for another leader at the back in addition to Marquinhos ever since the departure of Thiago Silva last summer. It will now be interesting to see if Ramos can reproduce the magic he was renowned for at Real Madrid with the Ligue 1 giants and deliver the elusive UEFA Champions League title.
