Transfer News: Real Madrid interested in Caglar Soyuncu

Aston Villa are eyeing a summer move for Leicester City star Caglar Soyuncu According to Fichajes, Premier League side Aston Villa are keen to land Aston Villa defender Caglar Soyuncu in the 2023 summer transfer window. The Turkish international is a key player under Brendan Rodgers and has made 125 appearances for the club across all competitions scoring three goals and assisting two more. A physically dominant player with pace to boot, he is a capable centre-back who can serve in a dependable rearguard. At 26, Soyuncu is still young and has the best years of his career ahead of him. His contract at the King Power Stadium expires next summer, meaning he is potentially set to become a free agent. Landing a player of his ability for free is excellent business and it comes as no surprise that Villa are keen. The Foxes do not appear too keen to renew Soyuncu's contract and unless something changes soon, he will be free to talk to foreign clubs regarding a pre-contract from January 1 2023. Villa, however, will have to wait until the summer to land their man. Apart from the Villains, other English clubs namely Wolverhampton Wanderers and Southampton are also keeping tabs on the 26-year-old. Unai Emery is an excellent coach who is known for building solid defensive lines. The Spaniard, is on paper, among the finest options to rekindle Soyuncu's flagging career. The Turkish ace's reputation has taken a beating in recent years and one could argue that the stock has fallen as well. Moving to a Villa side that is similarly trying to make up for lost ground could prove to be a win-win for both parties. While Villa went big last summer, an unfortunate injury to Diego Carlos robbed them of potentially their best centre-back. Ezri Konsa and Tyrone Mings have their moments but are severely lacking when it comes to consistency. Bringing in a new player could help shake things up and improve fortunes at the back. Landing a player of Soyuncu's profile for free is a risk worth taking. While he could turn into a dud, there is an equal possibility that he might develop into a solid player under the right guidance. Instead injuries and a loss of form sadly characterise his downward spiral for the last few years..

Real Madrid have reportedly set their sights on 25-year-old Leicester City defender Caglar Soyuncu over a possible move this summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Caglar Soyuncu is a part of a shortlist of centre-back targets for Real Madrid in the summer transfer window. The Spanish giants are in the market for a potential replacement for Raphael Varane, who could be on his way to join Premier League heavyweights Manchester United.

Caglar Soyuncu has steadily grown in stature since joining Leicester City from SC Freiburg in the summer of 2018. While initially a backup option, the 25-year-old has come into his own since the departure of Harry Maguire, establishing himself as one of the best defenders plying their trade in the Premier League.

To date, Soyuncu has amassed 82 appearances for Leicester, chipping in with a couple of goals and an assist. His progress has invariably captured the attention of several big-name clubs across Europe in recent times, with Real Madrid the latest to join a long list of prospective suitors.

The interest from Real Madrid is hardly surprising, considering they have already lost the services of captain Sergio Ramos, who is now a free agent. While David Alaba could end up filling the void of the veteran Spanish defender, Los Blancos are also in a precarious position over the future of Raphael Varane, who has been heavily linked with Manchester United of late.

Therefore, it is a prudent move for Real Madrid to keep their options open as far as the situation surrounding the heart of their defence is concerned. To that end, Los Blancos have been linked with a possible move for Wesley Fofana, with Leicester City teammate Caglar Soyuncu emerging on their radar as well now.

Apart from Fofana and Soyuncu, Real Madrid also have Pau Torres and Aymeric Laporte on their radar, but Jules Kounde is no longer a part of their shortlist of central defensive targets. The report also adds that Real Madrid are weighing up the possibility of making Jesus Vallejo the replacement for Varane from within the squad after a solid loan spell with Granada last season.

As far as Soyuncu is concerned, his stock continues to skyrocket, and it will be interesting to see if he is courted by Real Madrid seriously in the summer transfer window. For now, he appears to have been identified as a potential target by the Merengues.
