Transfer News: Manchester City join Liverpool in Florian Neuhaus pursuit

Manchester City are reportedly rivalling Liverpool in pursuit of Borussia Monchengladbach whizkid Florian Neuhaus, valued at €40 million, this summer.

According to AS, Manchester City are among the clubs keeping an eye on Florian Neuhaus. The Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder is expected to leave the club in the summer after the Foals failed to secure European football next season. The German international is valued at around €40 million, though the valuation could increase.

Liverpool are currently in talks with Gladbach over a potential move for Neuhaus this summer, perhaps even after the ongoing European Championship comes to an end. Manchester City, though, are ready to rival the Merseyside giants, as Pep Guardiola, too, is keen on bolstering his options in the midfield department.

Despite enjoying a largely successful 2020/21 campaign, it appears Manchester City are bracing themselves for a reshuffle as they look to translate their domestic dominance into Europe. They are, in fact, being tipped to offload one of their star players in former Liverpool forward Raheem Sterling, who is reportedly courted by Barcelona.

The interest in Neuhaus, though, stems from Guardiola’s desire to add another creative midfielder in his ranks. Manchester City never really managed to replace David Silva following his departure last summer, so the addition of the Gladbach starlet could fill some holes in the midfield unit.

Unfortunately for the Citizens, Liverpool are the ones in pole position to secure the services of Neuhaus. The German international is highly favoured by Jurgen Klopp and has identified him as an ideal replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum, who has recently joined Paris Saint-Germain.

The Reds are anticipating a little midfield overhaul of their own, with Naby Keita being lined with a switch to Atletico Madrid. Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain, too, faces an uncertain future at Liverpool.

It paves the way ideally for young Neuhaus to establish himself as a potential starter for Liverpool next season. The former 1860 Munich prodigy could form an excellent partnership alongside the likes of Thiago and Jordan Henderson, providing not only dynamism but also more variety in the middle of the park.

Neuhaus is not the only Bundesliga star Liverpool are keeping an eye on, though. In recent days, the club is also reportedly keeping an eye on Bayern Munich’s newest contract rebel Kingsley Coman. The Merseyside giants have already brought in Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig earlier in the summer.

Therefore, it won’t be surprising to see either of these two joining Liverpool, with Neuhaus, in particular, very likely to switch to England following a disappointing campaign at Gladbach. Having said that, it will be interesting to see if Liverpool and Manchester City are prepared to meet the 24-year-old midfielder’s €40 million valuation.
