Manchester United have made the first move to sign Jadon Sancho by offering Borussia Dortmund an offer of around €69 million.

A recent report from SportBild has offered an update on the Jadon Sancho transfer saga. Manchester United have apparently made the first offer to Borussia Dortmund, worth around €69 million, though the Bundesliga giants have been swift to rebuff their attempts.

Die Schwarzgelben are reportedly holding out for €90 million plus bonuses, so United’s first bid falls way short of their valuation. It suggests that this transfer saga might once again stretch out until the very end of the summer before reaching a conclusion, even though Sancho has already agreed personal terms with the Premier League giants.

Sancho’s negotiations with United regarding a personal contract date back to last summer, when the Red Devils were determined to sign the youngster. Unfortunately, their waiting game did not pay off, with Dortmund not budging away from their asking fee in excess of €100 million.

It might be a similar scenario this time around, as the Bundesliga giants have the funds to keep hold of not only Sancho but also Erling Haaland, who is reportedly a target for Chelsea.

Unlike most other clubs, the Black and Yellows have managed their finances rather well over the years. As a result, they can afford to keep hold of their star players in the summer, despite losing around €70 million in losses over the past financial year.

Dortmund, though, won’t stand in the way of Sancho in case the Englishman intends to leave the club in the summer. The club is already scouting replacements, with Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi being eyed as a potential candidate.

As for Manchester United, they have plenty of alternatives of their own in case they miss out on Sancho. One of the potential options is Leeds United’s rising star Raphinha, who oddly enough was Dortmund’s desired replacement for Sancho last summer before he ended up moving to Elland Road.

In order to fund a big-money move in the summer, however, Manchester United might need to offload a few of their star players. The likes of David de Gea and Dean Henderson have been among the players linked with a potential exit, while Ole Gunnar Solskaer could also cash in on last summer’s failed transfer experiment in Donny van de Beek.
