Transfer News: Florian Neuhaus on Real Madrid radar

24-year-old German international Florian Neuhaus has emerged as a possible option to reinforce the Real Madrid midfield this summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Carlo Ancelotti wants Real Madrid to sign Florian Neuhaus in the summer transfer window. However, the 24-year-old German midfielder is likely to join Bayern Munich if and when he leaves Borussia Monchengladbach.

Neuhaus has seen his stock skyrocket on the back of a fantastic 2020/21 campaign that saw him establish himself as one of the best midfielders on show in the Bundesliga. While he has been with Borussia Monchengladbach since the summer of 2017, it is only this past season that he stepped up in an impressive fashion.

In 45 appearances across all competitions, the 24-year-old had a return of 8 goals and as many assists to show for his efforts, missing no game when available. His progress has also helped him become a regular in the German national squad and he is now set to feature at UEFA Euro 2020. At the same time, Neuhaus also seems to have captured the attention of Real Madrid.

The Merengues are in a period of transition following the departure of Zinedine Zidane, with Carlo Ancelotti taking over at the club. And, several departments look set to be bolstered this summer, with midfield looking in urgent need of reinforcements, and for good reason.

Luka Modric is already showing signs of age catching up to him, while Toni Kroos is well into his thirties as well. As a result, it is imperative that Real Madrid sign a central midfielder this summer, which is why they have been linked with several options, including Manuel Locatelli. And, Neuhaus is an option worth considering as well.

However, Real Madrid will have a battle on their hands if they are to land the 24-year-old in the summer, seeing as he is also a target for Liverpool and Bayern Munich. In fact, the report claims that a switch within the Bundesliga is likely for Neuhaus, with Bayern the favourites to sign him.

What now remains to be seen is if Real Madrid can do anything to turn the midfielder’s head, with Carlo Ancelotti keen on securing his services. For now, it looks like he could be set to join Bayern Munich whenever he leaves Borussia Monchengladbach.
