Barcelona are reportedly among the clubs that are keen on signing 27-year-old Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte this summer.
According to a report by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Aymeric Laporte is staring at an uncertain future heading into the summer transfer window. The 27-year-old defender is the subject of interest from Barcelona over a potential move, as a result.
Aymeric Laporte began his senior footballing career in La Liga, having spent nearly eight years at Athletic Bilbao. The big move in his career came in January 2018, when he ended up making his way to Manchester City in a big-money transfer. The move has paid off handsomely to a great extent, with Laporte being a regular feature for the Citizens.
The 2020/21 season, though, proved to be one of frustration, as John Stones ended up usurping him for much of City’s Premier League title run. As a result, the 27-year-old managed to feature 27 times across all competitions for the Citizens, and is now facing an uncertain future at the Etihad. This has piqued the interest of Barcelona.
Barcelona have already secured the services of two Manchester City players heading into the summer transfer window, with Sergio Aguero and Eric Garcia arriving at Camp Nou as free agents. The Blaugrana, though, are keen on bolstering their defence with a second centre-back as well, and for good reason.
While Garcia joins Barcelona as a potential long-term successor for Gerard Pique, the inconsistent displays of Samuel Umtiti and Clement Lenglet is forcing the Catalan giants to consider a move for a left-footed central defender as well, with the French duo being tipped for summer departures from Camp Nou.

To that end, Barcelona have been linked with a number of defenders that fit the bill, including Inigo Martinez, Alessio Romagnoli and a few others. And, Laporte is another in a long list of potential targets for Barcelona, with the 27-year-old, who has earned his maiden call-up to the Spanish national side heading into UEFA Euro 2020, being a viable target due to his prior experience in La Liga.
There have been suggestions by The Athletic that Laporte is among a number of players who are dissatisfied with their roles at Manchester City and could be on his way out of the Etihad. If that proves to be the case then Barcelona will surely be in the running to sign him, although it will be interesting to see if they can afford the price tag that the newly-crowned Premier League champions slap on the him.
