Transfer News: Newcastle United eyeing loan moves for Billy Gilmour and Tammy Abraham

Newcastle United are reportedly eyeing a sensational summer swoop for Chelsea duo Billy Gilmour and Tammy Abraham this summer.

According to The Northern Echo, Newcastle United are prepared to raid newly-crowned European champions Chelsea in pursuit of Billy Gilmour and Tammy Abraham. It appears Steve Bruce is keen on securing loan deals for both these players, as he looks to combat the financial difficulties put forth by the pandemic.

Newcastle have already enjoyed a lot of success with the loan of Joe Willock from Arsenal. In Gilmour, they believe they have found another player who is capable of becoming the latest midfield lynchpin for the Magpies, as they look to once again avoid relegation in the upcoming season.

Abraham, too, is being eyed as a target as Bruce looks to add to his attacking options. His primary striker Callum Wilson had enjoyed an excellent start to the campaign, but a hamstring injury put Newcastle United in huge trouble midway through the season.

The desired alternatives in Joelinton, Dwight Gayle and Andy Carroll, who is set to depart St. James’ Park this summer, are not reliable goalscorers either, which is why Chelsea striker Abraham has emerged as a potential transfer target for the Tyneside outfit.

The Englishman clearly does not have any future at Chelsea after falling behind Timo Werner, Olivier Giroud and Kai Havertz this past season. He is not favoured by Thomas Tuchel either, with the Blues ready to offload him for a reported fee of £40 million.

Newcastle United, however, simply cannot afford Chelsea’s valuation of Abraham in the market this summer and are, thus, in favour of signing in a season-long loan deal. The same logic applies to Billy Gilmour, whose future at Stamford Bridge is uncertain as well.

Chelsea have shown no desire to permanently offload Gilmour any time soon, but given his talent, age and the lack of game-time he has been given by Tuchel, a loan move away from Stamford Bridge is imperative, even more so considering the Blues are reportedly keeping an eye on Borussia Monchengladbach star Jonas Hofmann.

The arrival of the German international could further drop Gilmour in the pecking order next season, potentially forcing Chelsea to find a loan deal for the youngster. It will be interesting to see if his performances in the upcoming Euros change Tuchel’s perspectives, though.

For now, though, Chelsea duo Abraham and Gilmour have emerged as loan targets for Newcastle and it remains to be seen if they do exit Stamford Bridge temporarily for switch within the Premier League this summer.
