Real Madrid are reportedly set to miss out on the signing of Eintracht Frankfurt star Andre Silva, who is closing in on a transfer to Atletico Madrid.

According to German journalist Marc Behrenbeck, as relayed by Fichajes, Atletico Madrid are in advanced talks to secure the signing of Eintracht Frankfurt striker Andre Silva, who was a target for Real Madrid.

Silva has come a long way from his torrid spell at AC Milan. The 25-year-old, who endured a rough stint in Italy and failed to revive his career on loan at Sevilla, has enjoyed a new lease of life since arriving at Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer of 2019. Having initially joined on loan from Milan, he impressed in the last season, prompting the German outfit to sign him on a permanent basis.

Since the transfer was completed, Silva has stepped up a notch higher, establishing himself as one of the most prolific goalscorers in the Bundesliga, behind Robert Lewandowski and Erling Haaland. Indeed, the Portuguese international has plundered 25 goals from 29 league outings this season while setting up seven more. In addition to that, he has a goal and two assists in two DFB-Pokal games in 2020/21.

This kind of form has not gone unnoticed with Silva attracting interest from a host of clubs across Europe, including the likes of Manchester United and Barcelona. However, it was Real Madrid who were thought to be holding the aces in pursuit of the 25-year-old former FC Porto prodigy as there had been reports of the Merengues utilising Luka Jovic, who is currently on loan at Eintracht, as a makeweight in a deal to secure Silva’s signing.

But, according to the latest update from Behrenbeck of Sky Germany, that is not the case. The Bundesliga club are in no position to afford the wages of Jovic, meaning a deal with Real Madrid is unlikely to go through this summer. Instead, Silva is now said to be closing in on a transfer to the Spanish champions’ local rivals Atletico Madrid.

The Colchoneros are in the market for reinforcements at the top, with Luis Suarez not getting any younger and Joao Felix misfiring big time this season. In fact, the Portuguese has been linked with a summer exit, which would leave a big hole in the attacking department at Wanda Metropolitano, which Atletico Madrid are now planning to address by securing the signing of Silva.

The report goes on to add that Atletico Madrid have already opened negotiations with Eintracht Frankfurt as well as Silva’s representatives over a summer move. The Rojiblancos will have to shell out a transfer fee of €30 million which is the value of the 25-year-old’s release clause.

As for Real Madrid, it looks like they will miss out on Silva this summer and their hunt for a cover for Karim Benzema could now lead to alternatives such as Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic.
