Real Madrid are considering a summer move for Chelsea superstar Christian Pulisic, who is also viewed as a strategic signing by Los Blancos.
According to an exclusive report by Defensa Central, Christian Pulisic has emerged on the radar of Real Madrid over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The defending La Liga champions consider the 22-year-old Chelsea superstar as a strategic signing, on both sporting and economic fronts.
Christian Pulisic joined Chelsea from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2019 and has since endured a roller-coaster of a ride at Stamford Bridge. In his maiden campaign with the Blues, the USMNT international proved to be a key figure as they finished inside the top four while reaching the FA Cup final.
The ongoing campaign, though, has been a tough one, as he had to overcome a spate of injuries before initially becoming a bit-part player under Thomas Tuchel. In the past month or so, however, the 22-year-old has become a regular for the Chelsea boss and was in his elements as the Blues held Real Madrid to a 1-1 draw in the UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg.
Indeed, Pulisic has scored some important goals for Chelsea in the second half of the season and it looks like he has won Tuchel over. His progress, though, has alerted Real Madrid, who kept a close watch on him during the aforementioned Champions League tie.
The interest in Pulisic makes sense for Real Madrid, who have been linked with a number of wide forwards, including Raheem Sterling and others, ahead of the summer transfer window. Lucas Vazquez is facing an uncertain future at the club and could depart as a free agent this summer.
In addition, former Chelsea superstar Eden Hazard has had to battle his fair share of injuries over the course of his Real Madrid spell, leaving Marco Asensio, Rodrygo Goes and Vinicius Jr. as the only other options at Zinedine Zidane’s disposal, with the trio proving to be quite inconsistent.
To that end, Pulisic is a viable target for Real Madrid, although it is not only on the sporting front that the Chelsea forward could prove to be appealing. His acquisition could open Real Madrid up to the US market, which would be a “powerful place to generate income” as per the report.
Having said that, swooping Pulisic away from Chelsea could be a tall order for Real Madrid, seeing as his current deal runs through to the summer of 2024, which would most likely mean that he will command a considerable transfer fee. With the Merengues struggling on the financial front and already eyeing one big-money move in Erling Haaland, a summer move for Pulisic is unlikely.
