Predicted Manchester United lineup against Leeds United: Cavani to return; Rashford in contention

Edinson Cavani will return while Marcus Rashford is in contention to feature, when Manchester United take on Leeds United on Sunday.

Manchester United will be hoping to continue their fine unbeaten run when they lock horns with Leeds United at Elland Road on Sunday afternoon. And, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is sweating over the fitness of Marcus Rashford ahead of his side’s latest fixture.

The English international has been struggling with a foot injury for quite some time now and has not trained much ahead of the trip to Elland Road. However, there is some good news, with Eric Bailly resuming full training this week, although Anthony Martial and Phil Jones remain on the sidelines for Manchester United.

Speaking to the Manchester United media, Solskjaer provided an update on Rashford and Bailly, saying, “Yes Eric is back and has been training this week. It’s been a good week. Marcus hasn’t trained but I hope that he will join us tomorrow. Apart from that everyone – of course Anthony is injured still – has had a couple of days of recovery and a week of preparation and training.”

Considering Manchester United had an entire week to prepare for the game against Leeds, it is likely that changes will be kept to a bare minimum. Dean Henderson ought to start in goal ahead of David de Gea once again, with United being set up in a 4-2-3-1 formation in front of him.

At the heart of the Manchester United defence, there is no looking past Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof, with Bailly only likely to come into contention in the midweek UEFA Europa League tie against AS Roma. As for the full-backs, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw pretty much pick themselves.

Up ahead in midfield, the shape of the double pivot depends largely on Rashford’s availability. If the Englishman is fit to start, Paul Pogba will pair up with Scott McTominay in the middle of the park. Otherwise, the partnership between Fred and McTominay will continue again.

Mason Greenwood impressed once again last time out versus Burnley and is a certainty on the right flank on Sunday, with Bruno Fernandes reprising his usual no. 10 role. Rashford could well be a part of the starting lineup, with Edinson Cavani leading the line for Manchester United against Leeds.

Manchester United Predicted XI: Henderson, Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw; McTominay, Pogba; Greenwood, Bruno Fernandes, Rashford; Cavani
