Transfer News: Real Madrid set sights on Marcelo Brozovic

Real Madrid are reportedly interested in signing Marcelo Brozovic from Inter Milan in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercato, Marcelo Brozovic has popped up on the radar of Real Madrid. The 28-year-old Inter Milan midfielder is viewed as one of several options being considered by Los Blancos to bolster their midfield in the summer transfer window.

Brozovic has become one of the best players on show in Serie A since joining Inter Milan from Dinamo Zagreb in January 2015. Over the past six years or so, the Croatian international has been a stalwart in midfield for the Nerazzurri, having gradually grown in stature before becoming an ever-present figure for the club.

Till date, the 28-year-old has amassed 235 appearances for Inter, even chipping in with 24 goals and 32 assists. His progress over the years has captured the attention of some of the biggest clubs in Europe, and particularly Real Madrid, who have been linked with Brozovic previously. Heading into the summer, the Merengues seem to have reignited their interest in the Croat.

Real Madrid do seem to be in need of a midfield reinforcement this coming summer, with Luka Modric approaching into the twilight of his career while Toni Kroos is also on the wrong side of 30. In addition, Isco is set for a summer exit after becoming a peripheral figure whereas Dani Ceballos  is not guaranteed to stay put at the club after returning from his loan spell with Arsenal,

With that in mind, it is not hard to see why Real Madrid would want to bolster their midfield in the upcoming transfer window, with several options reportedly identified. These include Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, N’Golo Kante and Wilfred Ndidi, among others.

Eduardo Camavinga has also been linked heavily with the reigning La Liga champions, but as per the report, Brozovic could become the priority target. Calciomercato also suggest that Real Madrid could be set to table an offer for the 28-year-old, although it has not been mentioned whether the player himself is open to a move.

Nevertheless, a player of Brozovic’s quality should come in handy for Real Madrid, as he can fill in for Casemiro adeptly while also providing competition to Modric, Kroos and Federico Valverde for the box-to-box roles. What now remains to be seen is if Real Madrid do manage to land Brozovic this coming summer, or if they are forced to turn their attention elsewhere.
