Chelsea are reportedly keen on signing FC Porto winger Jesus Corona, who is also a transfer target for Inter Milan and Sevilla.
According to a report from Italian outlet Calciomercato, Premier League giants Chelsea are interested in signing FC Porto’s Mexican international winger Jesus Corona.
Having started out at CF Monterrey in his homeland, Jesus Corona made his way to Europe in 2013, signing for Dutch club FC Twente where he spent two years before joining Porto. Since then, the 28-year-old has been an integral member of the Portuguese outfit and has gone on to win a number of trophies with the club.
Till date, Jesus Corona has made 265 appearances for the Dragoes, in which he has produced a return of 31 goals and 65 assists. The 28-year-old has been in good nick in the 2020/21 campaign as well, bagging three goals and 12 assists from 44 games in all competitions thus far.
Able to play anywhere along the right flank, Corona will be entering the final year of his contract with FC Porto at the end of the season. And this seems to have alerted quite a number of clubs across Europe, with Chelsea among them, as per the report.
The Blues invested heavily in strengthening their attacking unit last summer. But another major rejig could be on the way this summer following the appointment of Thomas Tuchel as the manager. The switch to a 3-4-2-1 system under the German has meant that the likes of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner have found it hard to break into the starting lineup.
In fact, there have been speculations that Chelsea could look to offloading the duo this summer, which would leave them in need of reinforcements in attack, having been linked with Sevilla’s Bryan Gil. Jesus Corona, to that end, can be someone that the club looks at. The 28-year-old can play as a right winger as well as a wing-back, which would provide Tuchel with additional options with regard to the squad dynamics.

In addition, the 45-time capped Mexican international is also vastly experienced which will come in handy for Chelsea. However, the Blues are set to face competition from Inter Milan, who are said to be keen, while Sevilla, too, are intent on signing the Porto wideman. In fact, Sevilla seem to be the best-placed team to land Corona, having monitored him since last year and stayed in constant touch with his representatives.
The report adds that Corona’s termination clause stands at €25 million heading into the summer, which will be appealing to a lot of clubs. It now remains to be seen if Chelsea do act on their reported interest in the Mexican international or look elsewhere to bolster their attack.
