Transfer News: Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United set for Erling Haaland talks

Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United are all set to hold talks with Mino Raiola over the possibility of a summer move for Erling Haaland.

According to a report from Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, super-agent Mino Raiola is set to travel to England as he is set for talks with Premier League giants Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City with regard to his client and in-demand striker Erling Haaland.

The 20-year-old Borussia Dortmund star is the hottest commodity in the transfer market heading into the summer window with every top club across Europe eyeing a move for him. Apart from the aforementioned four clubs in England, the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid are also pushing to sign the Norwegian international.

In fact, Raiola, along with Haaland’s father, Alf-Inge, had a meeting with Barcelona as well as Real Madrid on Thursday before the duo flies out to England for a meeting with four of Premier League’s Big Six clubs.

For Chelsea, the need for a new centre-forward is borne due to the struggles of last summer’s marquee addition Timo Werner. The German international has been below-par in his debut season in England and could be allowed to leave by Thomas Tuchel, who has set his sights firmly on Haaland to bolster his attacking unit.

Add to it, with there being question marks surrounding the future of both Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud, whose contract expires at the end of the season, a new striker would be a welcome addition at Stamford Bridge.

Liverpool, meanwhile, also need a prolific goalscorer at the top as Roberto Firmino has struggled to find the back of the net consistently this term, which has left Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane to carry the goalscoring burden. Furthermore, the Brazilian has been strongly linked with a summer move away to Atletico Madrid as well.

Throw in the uncertainty surrounding the future of Divock Origi as well as Salah’s continued flirting with a possible move to La Liga, a superstar addition to the attacking unit would be something that Jurgen Klopp & co. would need this summer.

Manchester United are in a similar boat to Liverpool with their main centre-forward Anthony Martial struggling to hit the net consistently while Edinson Cavani’s future remains uncertain. Mason Greenwood has failed to build upon his successful breakthrough campaign and Marcus Rashford has looked more at home on the left-wing.

Thus, an elite goalscorer becomes a vital addition for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer if Manchester United are to take the next step under him and bring back the glory days at Old Trafford. For Manchester City, it is the case of them needing a direct replacement for all-time leading goalscorer Sergio Aguero, who will leave at the end of the season.

Haaland, thus, has become a viable target for all four clubs and they will hold talks with the player’s agent and father over the possibility of a transfer in the summer. The 20-year-old though is said to favour a transfer to Real Madrid while Raiola has strong relations with Barcelona’s new president Joan Laporta.

So, it remains to be seen if any of Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United or City are able to land the Norwegian sensation in the summer.
